Kyle Lowry Trade

(3/6/22)

Wait ‘Til Next Year trades Kyle Lowry (PG, Heat) and 5th Round PROSPECT DRAFT Pick

to

The Pullies for 3rd Round PROSPECT DRAFT Pick

Wait ‘Til Next Year trade grade: C-
The Pullies trade grade: B+

Trade Summary:
Hip hip hooray for smart teams! This is a genius little trade The Pullies and Wait ‘Til Next Year concocted before tomorrow’s deadline. This is a win-win, though The Pullies come out on top in the grades because PROSPECT DRAFT picks are real lottery tickets. Especially one dead in the middle of the draft.

For The Pullies, this is still a gamble. Kyle Lowry might not play this season. We have no idea why he’s sitting out. We have no guarantee that he’s coming back before The Pullies round 2 games, so it makes perfect sense for Wait ‘Til Next Year to bail on him just in case. He just might have been able to get more.

That being said, there are a few tentacles this creates in the MLB Draft next Saturday. First, it could take Wait ‘Til Next Year and his $30 extra of budget out of the running for Witt, Julio or Torkelson, because he’d have to burn a precious roster spot or drop his 4th round PROSPECT DRAFT pick to stash one of those guys. It wouldn’t be optimal lineup building.

Second, The Pullies will likely take an early pick in the snake draft instead of an early pick in the prospect draft. This might lead to more of a win-now move by The Pullies in baseball, which could be a market inefficiency. Lots of teams are going to start packing it in and trying to play for next year, but that doesn’t seem to be The Pullies M.O. for better AND worse.

Altogether, a fascinating little trade.
