CHAMPIONSHIP GAME RECAP

Wait ‘Til Next Year (2): 560
Sporty Strauss (5): 475

And so it begins……… the strict reign of Wait ‘Til Next Year (2). GM Kyle Ooms’ teams next year are in an absurdly good place. If he can win MLB with a skeleton roster of streaming pitchers that complimented his stars this season, the sky is the limit next season. There’s no reason that Kyle shouldn’t win MLB every single year. He will be the betting favorite time and time and time again and, honestly, it’s unclear how much of a chance other teams have.

Sporty Strauss (5) and Win’s Up Doc (1) tried their best to build super teams this year in what will undoubtably be the easiest year to build super teams, and it still wasn’t enough. Wait ‘Til Next Year still won, and drew into a tie for 2nd place.

Kyle did this on the backs of savvy pickups, streaming SPs, streaming RPs with favorable matchups and even streaming hitters depending on where they are hitting in the lineup against bad pitchers. As always, if you do your research in baseball, you always have an advantage over the other teams in a way that isn’t even CLOSE to comparable in the other two sports.

Given that, Wait ‘Til Next Year has a significant advantage not only just in MLB, but in the League of Leagues as a whole. That BamO’s-Wait ‘Til Next Year trade looms very large to this day. When Sam traded $30 in NBA and MLB to Kyle, it allowed Wait ‘Til Next Year to build dominant teams in NBA and MLB that will continue for years. Now, he’s fixed his NFL squad and is ready to compete there.

Despite trading all those assets in one sport, Kyle still finished tied for 2nd this season in the League of Leagues. It almost feels like ‘next year’ is a fait accompli, and perhaps even the year after that. Wait ‘Til Next Year is the prohibitive favorite in the League of Leagues going forward. There’s no doubt about that.

And when it’s all said and done, we actually didn’t have to ‘wait ‘til next year.’ A tie for 2nd place with that NFL team and the NBA and MLB injuries he had is very impressive.

POST-SEASON AWARDS

Championship MVP

  • Gerrit Cole

  • Wait ‘Til Next Year (Kyle)

  • 39 points

Notes: Gerrit Cole, Kyle’s high-priced auction acquisition, finally paid off in the championship. A dominant 38-point performance set the tone for Wait ‘Til Next Year’s thorough DOMINATION in the pitching category vs Sporty Strauss. Both teams hit about equally, but Kyle’s pitching was about 100 points better than Sporty Strauss’ which is the difference in the victory.

Finals LVP

  • Johnny Cueto

  • Sporty Strauss (Strauss)

  • 0 points

Notes: Speaking of pitching, trade acquisition Johnny Cueto sank Sporty Strauss’ chances. It’s not like he would have had that much of a chance even if Cueto scored over 0 points, but here’s-JohnnyCueto is the biggest culprit. As a whole, Strauss’ pitching died this week. Bassit, Cease, Gonsolin and Wainwright all turned in sub-par outings whilst Wait ‘Til Next Year’s assortment of streamers dominated.

In future years, one thing to do is to plan ahead and pick up starters for future weeks. Even if you don’t play them, you can block other peoples’ starters. Sporty Strauss’ real LVP is not doing that.

Playoffs MVP

  • Alex Bregman

  • Sporty Strauss (Strauss)

  • 100+ points

Notes: What more can be said about Alex Bregman? Scoring over 33 points per week throughout the three playoff weeks is absurd. His performance in the Championship was worse than previous weeks, but it was by no means bad. Sporty Strauss still has Bregman’s name etched into his heart for winning LoL as a whole even though Strauss couldn’t get it done in the Championship.

Playoffs LVP

  • Alex Wood

  • Win’s Up Doc (Oat)

  • -2 points

Notes: Win’s Up Doc could have made the Championship Game with a better performance for Wood, but Win’s Up Doc still would have lost in the championship. Even still, there’s still a payout difference between 2nd and 3rd and maybe he could have talked $traight Cash Homie into trying a little bit harder for 3rd place. Alex Wood WAS the difference between the 2nd round juggernaut matchup between Strauss and Oat, so he gets the LVP of the playoffs. -2 points from a starter is untenable in matchups against super teams, let alone any game by itself. The Wood was FAR to flaccid to compete.

REGULAR SEASON SUPERLATIVES

Regular Season MVP

  • Aaron Judge

  • $traight Cash Homie (Jack)

  • 4.5 ppg – 1st Round Snake Pick

Notes: How Aaron Judge made it to the middle of the 1st Round MLB is a mystery. He was the 5th pick (!!!) in the snake draft, which means 4 teams passed on him. Those teams, for the record, are MN Moose Knuckles (Giolito), Las Cabras (Jack Flaherty who never played this season), Porkchop Express (Jonathan India… YUCK!) and The BamO’s (Pete Alonso). Those teams passed on the LITERAL best hitter for fantasy this season, and a player young enough to be a staple for the long term. Judge singlehandedly kept $traight Cash Homie afloat in MLB on certain weeks and led him to a division championship. Judge was the MVP of the season, providing the biggest boost to his team compared to any other player on any other contending team.

Regular Season LVP

  • Trevor Rogers

  • $traight Cash Homie (Jack)

  • 8.5ppg – $13

Notes: Ironically, $traight Cash Homie had both the MVP and the LVP. And while there were probably worse draft picks than Trevor Rogers, the problem with Trevor Rogers was that he was drafted with high enough capital that he HAD to start. There were other players who got injured, but it’s both not fair to put them on this last AND players who are in lineups but are tanking teams are far worse than major injuries. Trevor Rogers managed a measly 8 points per game for Jack, and it should be no surprise that he’s team came on strong towards the end of the season when Rogers got hurt. When he was out of the lineup, the $traight Cash Homies were a far better team.

Best Auction Draft Pick

  • Julio Rodriguez

  • Cooper Troopers (Coop)

  • $17 – 3.2 ppg

Notes: There were a lot of great auction picks, but nothing compares to Julio Rodriguez. $17 isn’t dirt cheap, but he’d be a potential top-5 player if the draft happened right now. He certainly would have gone for twice this amount, and he’s the Cooper Troopers’ premier baseball asset. The Cooper Troopers somehow have the best rookies in BOTH NBA and MLB, which could be a boon for the Cooper Troopers’ title hopes next season and backbones for teams going forward.

Top-15 Auction Picks

  1. Julio Rodriguez (OF, Mariners; 3.2ppg) – Cooper Troopers – $17

  2. Alek Manoah (SP, Blue Jays; 23.5ppg) – The Pullies – $9

  3. Sandy Alcantara (SG, Marlins; 27.5ppg) – SG Choppers – $20

  4. Yordan Alvarez (CO, Astros; 3.8ppg) – $traight Cash Homie – $21

  5. Alex Bregman (3B, Astros; 3.3ppg) – Sporty Strauss – $14

  6. Shohei Ohtani (SP/DH, Angels; 920 total points) – The Pullies – $50

  7. Luis Castillo (SP, Mariners; 22.5ppg) – SG Choppers to $traight Cash Homie) – $11

  8. Jazz Chisholm Jr. (2B/SS, Marlins; 3.5ppg) – The BamO’s – $12

  9. Logan Webb (SP, Giants; 20.5ppg) – The BamO’s – $13

  10. Willy Adames (SS, Brewers; 3.1ppg) – MN Moose Knuckles – $4

  11. Manny Machado (3B, Padres; 3.5ppg) – Sporty Strauss – $15

  12. Starling Marte (OF, Mets; 3.2ppg) – The BamO’s) – $8

  13. Byron Buxton (CF, Twins; 3.1ppg) – The Pullies – $9

  14. Jose Altuve (2B, Astros; 3.4ppg) – Win’s Up Doc – $9

  15. Austin Riley (3B, Braves; 3.4ppg) – $traight Cash Homie – $15

Notes: There was so much value in this auction. SO much. Some of it is for future values like #HUNKS and young players. Some of it was simply for win-now players who dominated down the stretch. The BamO’s were the kings of value with 3 players on this list, but a lot of teams made great selections that deserve recognition.

Worst Auction Pick

  • Jarred Kelenic

  • Win’s Up Doc (Oat)

  • $18 – ??? ppg

Notes: On the dark side of the auction coin, Kelenic went for $1 more than Julio Rodriguez. Kelenic was an absolute bust, and should be considered a reason that Win’s Up Doc did not succeed in beating Sporty Strauss or winning the championship. The types of players Oat could have gotten with that money instead are absurd. But Oat got trapped in the draft with extra budget and had to spend it on someone. Kelenic was that guy, and he probably still needs to keep him as a #HUNK going into next season, which is a terrifying proposition.

Worst-10 Auction Picks

  1. Jarred Kelenic (OF, Mariners; 1.2ppg) – Win’s Up Doc – $18

  2. Trevor Rogers (SP, Marlins; 8.5ppg) – $traight Cash Homie – $13

  3. Spencer Torkelson (1B/3B, Tigers; 1.4ppg) – $traight Cash Homie – $14

  4. Alex Kirilloff (1B/CO, Twins; 1.8ppg) – Las Cabras – $7

  5. Fernando Tatis Jr. (SS/CO, Padres; N/A) – Las Cabras – $41

  6. Jose Berrios (SP, Blue Jays; 16ppg) – MN Moose Knuckles to Win’s Up Doc) – $10

  7. Eloy Jimenez (CO, White Sox; 2.5ppg) – SG Choppers – $18

  8. Bo Bichette (SS, Blue Jays; 2.6ppg) – SG Choppers – $36

  9. Ozzie Albies (2B, Braves; 2.7ppg) – DTC Porkchop Express – $27

  10. Wander Franco (SS, 2.8ppg) – Wait ‘Til Next Year – $38

Notes: There were a lot of terrible auction picks contrary to what happened in both NFL and NBA. In those sports, very few non-injured players busted. In MLB, there were a handful of complete busts. Fernando Tatis tops that list, but he was injured shortly after the draft, throwing Las Cabras into tank mode. Torkelson was another massive bust, and there are serious keeper concerns there. Jack might be in the unenviable position of choosing between Tork and Trevor Rogers as a keeper.

$traight Cash Homie, SG Choppers and Las Cabras were tied with the most players on this list, and that showed down the stretch of their seasons. But teams were really made or broken in the snake, as is always the case.

Best Snake Draft Pick

  • Shane McClanahan

  • Wait ‘Til Next Year (Kyle)

  • 2.05 pick – 77th player taken

  • 26.5 ppg

Notes: Going forward, Shane McClanahan is one of the three most valuable pitchers in the League of Leagues. For him to be a #HUNK as well is one of the bigger developments for any LoL team. Kyle took him in the 2nd round even though he had his #HUNKS all set, and it payed off in a big way. Now, Kyle rolls into next year with McClanahan, Gerrit Cole and Jacob DeGrom as one of the best pitching ensembles ever assembled in fantasy. He’s going to utterly smoke people next season barring health.

Top-15 Snake Picks

  1. Shane McClanahan (SP, Rays; 26.5ppg) – Wait ‘Til Next Year – Rd 2

  2. Tony Gonsolin (SP, Dodgers; 22.5ppg) – DTC Porkchop Express to Sporty Strauss) – Rd 16

  3. Nestor Cortes (SP, Yankees; 21ppg) – Cooper Troopers – Rd 24

  4. Paul Goldschmidt (1B, Cardinals; 4.3ppg) Ornery Otters – Rd 3

  5. Aaron Judge (OF, Yankees; 4.5ppg) – $traight Cash Homie – Rd 1

  6. Joe Musgrove (SP, Padres; 23ppg) – The BamO’s – Rd 2

  7. Jeremy Pena (SS, Astros; 2.4ppg) – Win’s Up Doc – Rd 15

  8. Josh Bell (1B, Padres; 3ppg) – Win’s Up Doc – Rd 8

  9. CJ Cron (1B, Rockies; 2.9ppg) – Wait ‘Til Next Year – Rd 11

  10. Ty France (1B/2B, Mariners; 2.7ppg) – Sporty Strauss to MN Moose Knuckles) – Rd 7

  11. Max Scherzer (SP, Mets; 26.5ppg) – Win’s Up Doc – Rd 2

  12. Pete Alonso (1B, Mets; 3.5ppg) – The BamO’s – Rd 1

  13. Dylan Cease (SP, White Sox; 21.5ppg) – Sporty Strauss – Rd 2

  14. Willson Contreras (C, Cubs; 3.1ppg) – Las Cabras to Wait ‘Til Next Year – Rd 10

  15. Andrew Vaughn (1B/CO, White Sox; 2.8ppg) – SG Choppers – Rd 14

Notes: Teams are built in the snake, and this list is littered with players who played in the playoffs. A few were traded from bad teams to good teams, but the good teams that didn’t need to make those trades were able to coast into playoffs, giving themselves a chance at money.

Also, first basement were strangely the most prominent position on this list. Whilst other teams focused on middle infield, the savvy teams took mashers that all returned super high draft value.

Win’s Up Doc, unsurprisingly, tops this list with 3 players. Sporty Strauss drafted three as well. And those were the best two teams at the end of the regular season.

Worst Snake Pick

  • Jo Adell

  • DTC Porkchop Express (Craig)

  • 5.03 – 63rd player taken

Notes: Jo Adell was one of the weirdest-ranked players on consensus draft boards. There was no real reason he should have been as high as he was.

Worst-10 Snake Picks

  1. Jo Adell (CO, Angels; 1.6ppg) – DTC Porkchop Express – Rd 5

  2. Michael Conforto (CO, N/A; N/A) – DTC Porkchop Express – Rd 8

  3. Jonathan India (2B, Reds; 2.4ppg) – DTC Porkchop Express – Rd 1

  4. Joey Gallo (CO, Dodgers; 1.7ppg) – DTC Porkchop Express) – Rd 7

  5. Chris Sale (SP, Red Sox; 5.5ppg) – Sporty Strauss – Rd 3

  6. Nate Pearson (RP, Blue Jays; N/A) – Las Cabras – Rd 10

  7. Yasmani Grandal (C, White Sox; 1.4ppg) – Sporty Strauss – Rd 8

  8. Javier Baez (2B/SS, Tigers; 2.1ppg) – Cooper Troopers – Rd 3

  9. Aroldis Chapman (RP, Yankees; 2.9ppg) – $traight Cash Homie – Rd 9

  10. Jack Flaherty (SP, Cardinals; N/A) – Las Cabras – Rd 1

Notes: Why hello there, all of DTC Porkchop Express’ roster! This is undoubtably the worst snake draft we’ve seen to date. It all starts with taking Jonathan India instead of Pete Alonso or the MVP, Aaron Judge. From there, he had a couple of solid rounds of picks before a disastrous 5th through 8th rounds. But it’s okay! These horrible picks ended up helping him tank to move up in the Strauss Draft. However, he still could have gotten assets for good players he drafted here.

Sporty Strauss and Las Cabras also have a couple of players in here, each of whom hurt the team in some way, shape or form. But injuries were a big part of that, and it’s not fair to ding those teams too much.

Best Waiver Addition

  • Kyle Wright

  • Wait ‘Til Next Year (Kyle)

    • 23.5 ppg

Notes: A close contest for this award between Kyle Wright and Martin Perez, Wright edges it out with his performance in the Championship Game. Kyle Wright was great ALL season for Wait ‘Til Next Year, but a 38-point game in the playoffs helped him move up to a tie for second and cement Kyle’s dominance. Kyle picked up Kyle Wright at the beginning of the season. Then he put him on the trading block all year, but nobody would bite. As a result, Kyle Wright became Kyle’s ace in the hole down the stretch in the playoffs, providing big performances that captured a championship.

Top-5 Waiver Additions

  1. Kyle Wright (SP, Braves; 23.5ppg) Wait ‘Til Next Year

  2. Martin Perez (SP, Rangers; 22.5ppg) $traight Cash Homie)

  3. Christian Walker (1B, Diamondbacks; 3ppg)$traight Cash Homie

  4. William Contreras (C, Cubs; 3.1ppg) Win’s Up Doc

  5. Tyler Anderson (SP, Dodgers; 21.5ppg) SG Choppers to Win’s Up Doc

Notes: Kyle Wright along with Martin Perez and Tyler Anderson made ALL the difference for their teams. These SP pickups all pitched in the LoL playoffs to varying degrees of success. They got teams there, and sometimes, like Wait ‘Til Next Year’s case, it can make all the difference.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME RECAP

Win’s Up Doc: 1531
MN Moose Knuckles: 1267

Legends are made in the heat of battle, and Win’s Up Doc walks away with a legend after his dominant NBA performance in the first year of the League of Leagues. Doc #FriedTheGuy this week, his 3rd straight PLAYOFF week with about 1500 points during the week.

Some have his players have become personal legends too. Porzingis, Valanciunas, Jordan Poole, Desmond Bane, Dejounte Murray and Mo Bamba were all perhaps the biggest contributors this week – none of whom were big names before opening tip off this season. That’s the story of Win’s Up Doc’s season: dominant performances from players who weren’t highly touted at the draft, most were selecte in the snake, and all just put up massive numbers for his squad all season long.

Win’s Up Doc had his ups and his downs this season, but he ends up as a heroic figure in the Leagued of Leagues. He beat the bully, Sporty Strauss, in that first round of the playoffs and carried home a most impressive victory.

The MN Moose Knuckles didn’t have much of a shot in the Championship Round, scoring only about 1270 points this week, which wouldn’t have beaten many other playoff teams. There were some injury issues for Hall, but nothing that would have swing that game back in his favor.

It’s a tough loss for Hall. He only scored 2 points in football by finishing in 11th place, so he really needed all the extra points he could get. Normally, a League of Leagues team walking away with 2nd place would feel pretty good, but this loss is a little more muted for the MN Moose Knuckles who now have their work cut out for them in MLB to make up the gap. With 14 season-long points, the MN Moose Knuckles are in okay shape to place top-4, though there are 4 teams with 13 points right behind Hall to compete for those

On the flip side, Win’s Up Doc has 18 points, putting him FIRMLY in contention this season. He’s 4 points back from Sporty Strauss with the top-ranked MLB squad coming into the season. It’s go time for the Fryers.

POST-SEASON AWARDS

Championship MVP

  • Kristaps Porzingis

  • Win’s Up Doc (Oat)

  • 182 points

Notes: Porzingis off of injury was a godsend for Win’s Up Doc. In a matter of days, Jarrett Allen got hurt, but Kristaps Porzingis debuted for the Washington Wizards. After getting his feet under him in a couple games during the first week of the playoffs, Kristaps Porzingis was the best player on the court for Oat. Now, there are real signs of improvement going forward for Porzingis, and his dynasty stock soars.

But even if Porzingis flames out with injury in the next couple of years, Win’s Up Doc will always have memories of his sweet, Latvian unicorn trouncing down the court.

Finals LVP

  • Terry Rozier

  • MN Moose Knuckles (Chris Hall)

  • 100 points

Notes: Finals LVP is an interesting award in basketball. With such deep rosters, showing who the worst regular-minutes player on a Championship barometer is an interesting exercise. For the MN Moose Knuckles, they got decent production from the worst players an the roster, but they did get an underwhelming week from Terry Rozier. Scary Terry only scored 25 points per game, when his usual average was 32 or 33. He played mondo minutes as well, finishing at less that .7 points per minute. It’s an unfortunate finish for one of the best values in the entire NBA draft.

Playoffs MVP

  • Joel Embiid

  • MN Moose Knuckles (Hall)

  • 539 points

Notes: The MN Moose Knuckles made the big trade to lock Joel Embiid into his postseason lineup. While it was never the difference between winning and losing in the playoffs, Embiid was still the highest-scoring player in the 3 playoff weeks. He also scared too many teams on the other side of the bracket away from making trades at the deadline. It’s both a great example of why teams should look at the trade market to bolster squads, but it also serves a warning… if Joel Embiid can’t swing any playoff games for you, what superstar can?

Playoffs LVP

  • Derrick White

  • Sporty Strauss (Strauss)

  • 39 points (over 2 or 3 games)

Notes: Sporty Strauss has quite a few contenders for LVP, though this is the only egregious one. Franz Wagner underperformed. Ben Simmons never set foot on the court during the League of Leagues season. Chris Duarte barely played and got hurt. But Derrick White becoming an unplayable player overnight crushed Sporty Strauss the most.

Derrick White rode pine for Strauss most of the playoffs when he’d been a regular contributor all season. It forced worse players into Strauss’ lineup. There’s no more of an LVP than that!

It’s all made worse by the fact that Derrick White went one pick before DeMar DeRozan, a player Sporty Strauss still had to trade extra assets for at the end of the season.

REGULAR SEASON SUPERLATIVES

Regular Season MVP

  • Dejounte Murray

  • Win’s Up Doc (Oat)

  • 46.1 ppg

Notes: Dejounte Murray could have easily been the Playoffs MVP, but he gets a regular season MVP award instead… even better! Murray is able to capitalize on something that is crazy valuable, especially in the League of Leagues scoring system – STEALS!!! With 2.1 steals per game, that’s 6.3 points every single start for Murray, an astronomical amount as the season goes along. Combine that with near triple-double numbers and 20ppg, and Murray is an unbelievable fantasy player. He’s likely a top-10 guy going forward.

The uncertain thing about Dejounte is the looming question of what happens when the Spurs get better. Murray is a great player on a bad team, but what happens when things improve around him?

Regular Season LVP

  • Zion Williamson

  • $traight Cash Homie (Jack)

  • 0 points – $30

Notes: This one is obvious and might be better left unsaid. However, the nature of the Zion story changes the equation here. Usually, nominating injury-riddled seasons is low-hanging fruit, but for Zion, it feels like this is a player who COULD have contributed this season. We don’t know the full situation yet, but Zion’s absence from the team is one of the strangest stories in basketball. Everyone is waiting for more information, but here’s all the information the League of Leagues needs: Zion Williamson tanked $traight Cash Homie’s season.

Best Auction Draft Pick

  • Scottie Barnes

  • Win’s Up Doc (Oat)

  • $6 – 30.7 ppg

Notes: There was no ABSOLUTE hammer-time pick in the auction. There were a lot of great ones, all listed below, but Scottie Barnes for $6 takes the cake. Not only did he help Oat be tied for the best record in the league, he contributed to the title. AND he’s a bonafide #Hunk, but extreme draft capital wasn’t spent on him. Scottie Barnes having this type of season helped Win’s Up Doc overcome the injure issues Michael Porter Jr., his presumptive SF/PF swing starter. He was a home run draft pick that will pay dividends for Win’s Up Doc throughout his League of Leagues NBA career.

Top-10 Auction Picks

  1. Scottie Barnes (SF, Raptors; 30.7ppg) – Win’s Up Doc – $6

  2. Ja Morant (PG, Grizzlies; 40.5ppg) – The Pullies – $21

  3. Evan Mobley (PF, Cavaliers; 31.3ppg) – Cooper Troopers – $16

  4. Terry Rozier (PG, Hornets; 31.9ppg) – MN Moose Knuckles – $2

  5. Joel Embiid** (C, 76ers; 50.2 ppg) – $traight Cash Homie – $32

  6. Tyrese Haliburton (PG, Kings/Pacers; 33.4ppg) – SG Choppers – $13

  7. Christian Wood (PF, Rockets; 33.9 ppg) – Cooper Troopers – $7

  8. Mikal Bridges (SF, Suns; 25.3 ppg) – Ornery Otters – $3

  9. LaMelo Ball (PG, Hornets; 38.5 ppg) – Ornery Otters – $25

  10. Chris Paul (PG, Suns; 38.3 ppg) – DTC Porkchop Express – $7

Worst Auction Pick

  • Russell Westbrook

  • Ornery Otters (Korey)

  • $12 – 33.4 ppg

Notes: If Zion is excluded for injury here, Russell Westbrook is really the only performance-based horrible auction pick. Even then, 33.4 PPG isn’t awful. But there were stretches that Russ killed the Ornery Otters lineup, and Russell Westbrook clearly isn’t a star in the actual NBA anymore. His play might slip ever season, and he certainly wasn’t worth the $12 price tag the Otters gave him.

Worst-5 Auction Picks

  1. Zion Williamson (PF, Pelicans; N/A) – $traight Cash Homies – $30

  2. Russell Westbrook (PG, Lakers; 33.4 ppg) – Ornery Otters – $12

  3. Jalen Green (SG, Rockets; 21.2 ppg) – SG Choppers – $14

  4. Jalen Suggs (SG, Magic; 20.9ppg) – MN Moose Knuckles – $18

  5. Kyrie Irving (PG, Nets; 41ppg) – Wait ‘Til Next Year – $16

Notes: Again, there aren’t that many TERRIBLE auction picks. The two Jalen rookies, Green and Suggs, both underperformed significantly. One team was able to overcome that poor production. The other wasn’t. Kyrie is only on the list due to COVID issues, and it’s easy to think he won’t be on a list like this for awhile.

Best Snake Draft Pick

  • DeMar DeRozan**

  • DTC Porkchop Express (Craig)

  • 2.10 pick – 82nd player taken

  • 39.3 ppg

    • ** traded to Sporty Strauss at the trade deadline

Notes: When DTC Porkchop Express took an aging wing that was a weird team fit in the second round of the NBA draft, eyes turned (we won’t name who graded this pick poorly). Nobody knew DeRozan had a resurgent season in him. Not like this. Nobody could have predicted he was going to dominate the way he did, leading DTC Porkchop Express to the 1-seed. More than any other team, DTC Porkchop Express relied on aging vets, for better or for worse. DeRozan is firmly in the ‘for better’ camp, and Craig got a nice return for the Bulls star before the trade deadline.

After that, DeRozan disappointed for Sporty Strauss, so maybe there’s just something about the magic that DTC and DeRozan have that creates a perfect marriage.

Top-15 Snake Picks

  1. DeMar DeRozan (SF, Bulls; 38.3 ppg) – DTC Porkchop Express (Rd 2)

  2. Dejounte Murray (PG, Spurs; 46.1 ppg) – Win’s Up Doc (Rd 1)

  3. Miles Bridges (SF, Hornets; 34.8 ppg) – The BamO’s (Rd 3)

  4. Franz Wagner (SF, Magic; 25.2 ppg) – Sporty Strauss (Rd 11)

  5. Tyrese Maxey (SG, 76ers; 27.7 ppg) – Wait ‘Til Next Year (Rd 10)

  6. Josh Giddey (PG, Thunder; 29 ppg) – DTC Porkchop Express (Rd 1)

  7. Darius Garland (PG, Cavs; 35 ppg) – The Pullies (Rd 2)

  8. Cole Anthony (PG, Magic; 28.9 ppg) – Las Cabras (Rd 9)

  9. Jonas Valanciunas (C, Hornets; 35.1 ppg) – Win’s Up Doc (Rd 2)

  10. Desmond Bane (SG, Grizzlies; 28.3 ppg) – Win’s Up Doc (Rd 13)

  11. Mo Bamba (C, Magic; 25.8 ppg) – Win’s Up Doc (Rd 15)

  12. Jarrett Allen (C, Cavaliers; 34.4 ppg) – Win’s Up Doc (Rd 3)

  13. Jalen Brunson (PG, Mavericks; 32 ppg) – The BamO’s (Rd 9)

  14. Wendell Carter, Jr. (C, Magic; 31.3 ppg) – MN Moose Knuckles (Rd 4)

  15. Seth Curry (SG, Nets; 23.6) – Las Cabras (Rd 11 )

Notes: These are sprinkles in the draft. There’s no real trends here. There’s no round of magical snake picks. There’s no rhyme or reason to these breakouts other than these are all excellent NBA players who found a way to contribute this season. Miles Bridges was one of the more surprising players, because most breakouts seem to come from center or PG, not a combo 4. Wagner, Maxey, Anthony and Bane are all super solid #Hunks that were great picks for their teams. Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen, both Cavs teammates, had injuries throughout the season, but returned excellent value compared to where where they were drafted.

When it’s all said and done, this section explains why Win’s Up Doc won the championship. He had 6 of the top 16 players on this list (with Gafford the top honorable mention).

Worst Snake Pick

  • Devontae Graham

  • Cooper Troopers (Coop)

  • 3.05 – 88th player taken

    • 21.2 ppg

Notes: Graham wasn’t hurt. He didn’t lack opportunity. He just didn’t perform. When drafted, he was a keepable player as the lead guard for the Pelicans. But when they traded for CJ McCollum, his value went out the window. He was especially poor down the stretch where season-long points were on the line. And now, the Cooper Troopers have a horrible 6th keeper situation that will need to be addressed.

Worst-10 Snake Picks

  1. Devonte Graham (PG, Pelicans; 21.2 ppg) – Cooper Troopers (Rd 3)

  2. James Bouknight (SG, Hornets; 7.8 ppg) – Las Cabras (Rd 3)

  3. Kemba Walker (PG, Knicks; 19.9 ppg) – Wait ‘Til Next Year (Rd 4)

  4. Moses Brown (C, Mavericks; 6 ppg) – SG Choppers (Rd 9)

  5. Killian Hayes (PG, Pistons; 17.4 ppg) – $traight Cash Homie (Rd 4)

  6. Boner Hyland (PG, Nuggets; 16.2 ppg) – Win’s Up Doc (Rd 5)

  7. Tobias Harris (SF, 76ers; 30 ppg) – SG Choppers (Rd 1)

  8. Buddy Hield (SG, Kings/Pacers; 23.5 ppg) – MN Moose Knuckles (Rd 3)

  9. Marvin Bagley (PF, Kings/Pistons; 20.7 ppg) – SG Choppers (Rd 4)

  10. Mentrezl Harrell (C, Wizards/Pelicans; 24.1 ppg) – The Pullies (Rd 3)

Notes: Okay. Here’s some bad ones. Some young players, Bouknight, Moses Brown and Boner Hyland just simply didn’t play enough to contribute to their teams. That firmly places them on this list. Kemba Walker is a big sore spot on Wait ‘Til Next Year’s ledger. He was the first pick of the 4th round of the snake. Some of the other players towards the bottom of the list really hurt their teams at certain points of the season, but they were serviceable at other times.

Altogether, the SG Choppers had 3 out of the top 11 players on this list, the primary reason for a sorry campaign. The Choppers just flat out missed on these players.

Best Waiver Addition

  • Herbert Jones

  • Win’s Up Doc (Oa)

    • 21.5 ppg

Notes: While this was a close contest between Herbert Jones and Anfernee Simons, Jones just simply played in more games. Plus, he’s a #Hunk with awesome 2-way potential as his career goes on. He was a regular contributor for Win’s Up Doc over the 2nd half of the season, and he was an amazing find on the wire. Congrats again, Win’s Up Doc. He’s absolutely piling on the accolades in this Season-In-Review.

Top-5 Waiver Additions

  1. Herbert Jones (SF, Pelicans; 21.5 ppg) – Win’s Up Doc

  2. Anfernee Simons (PG, Trailblazers; 23.4 ppg) – The Pullies

  3. Malik Monk (SG, Lakers; 21.2 ppg) – Win’s Up Doc

  4. Jared Vanderbilt (PF, Timberwolves; 23.1 ppg) – MN Moose Knuckles

  5. Marcus Morris, Sr. (PF, Clippers; 22.8 ppg) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

Notes: Another couple of players for Win’s Up Doc to boast about. Not only did he crush the snake draft, but he had two killer pickups in Jones and Monk. Vanderbilt and Marcus Morris both contributed hugely for their teams as well. Vanderbilt is a fringe keeper, and he could find a home on a new League of Leagues team this offseason.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME RECAP

What a game! A 185-150 point shootout between the two highest scoring teams in the League of Leagues is a fitting end. Sporty Strauss comes out victorious, and he now reigns supreme. He may have the cheesiest logo in the league of leagues. He may have coined the term #Hunk. He may have created the #StraussDraft. But THIS win is his biggest accomplishment to date.

With his season on the brink 4 weeks ago, he thought about selling or tanking, but he didn’t get offers he liked and, by will of the fantasy gods, snuck into the playoffs by the skin of his teeth.

Then he got the ultimate gift: a makeshift 1st round BYE when DTC Porkchop Express had its worst week of the entire season. Strauss also had a bad Week 1 of the playoffs, but nothing compared to Craig.

Then his team took off, scoring over 175 points in 2 straight weeks, both tops in the league. When it’s all said and done, Sporty Strauss beat the TOP-3 SEEDS in the League of Leagues in 3 consecutive weeks, a feat that will go down in history as one of the greatest playoff streaks of all time.

On the other side, Las Cabras have a lot to be proud of. Sure, they needed the win a little more than Sporty Strauss did, because their NBA team is significantly weaker. But this is a team FAR more built for the future than Sporty Strauss’ strategy of going simultaneously VERY OLD and VERY YOUNG in football. Las Cabras have two of the leagues best young (fantasy-friendly) QBs for the rest of their careers. They have great young receivers, and a bedrock for long-term success.

Las Cabras might not the the GOATs this year, but they’ll likely win one of these championships at some point. It might even be next year where they come in with the strongest group of keepers.

POST-SEASON AWARDS

Championship MVP

  • Tom Brady

  • Sporty Strauss (Strauss)

  • 27 points

Notes: The GOAT (Cabra?) is surely the GOAT this week. Yes, Najee Harris had more points than Grandpa Tom, but Strauss’ championship matchup was almost wrapped up by then. Tom Brady was down his top receiver and another receiver quit mid-game, and he still got it done for Sporty Strauss. Brady was one of the best picks in the League of Leagues football draft this year, and it shows the power of going for win-now players instead of betting on rookie QBs who we have no idea whether or not will pay off. Yes, Sporty Strauss also took one of those rookie QBs earlier in the draft and it almost cost him dearly, but going BOTH old AND young at fantasy’s most valuable position is still sound strategy. Sporty Strauss’ QB situation also proves that you don’t NEED 3 QBs (or 4) on your roster to win. You just need the right QB1, and Brady was that for Sporty all season.

Championship LVP

  • George Kittle

  • Las Cabras (Las Cabras)

  • 4 points

Notes: When this trade went down, it looked like one of the bigger steals of all time. But Kittle was already hurt. Then Edmonds got hurt. Then Darnold got hurt. But Kittle came back with a fury at the end of the fantasy regular season to lock up a BYE for Las Cabras. Unfortunately, that hot streak didn’t extend to the playoffs, where he scored a TOTAL of 7 points in two playoff games. They still won one of them and made the finals, but a huge game from Kittle with the sure hands of Jimmy G could have made things much closer.

Playoffs MVP

  • Davante Adams

  • Sporty Strauss (Strauss)

  • 69 points (nice)

Notes: Looking through Strauss’ playoff matchups, there’s one common denominator: dominant performances from Davante Adams. As mentioned before, Sporty Strauss got unbelievably lucky to draw DTC Porkchop Express in Adams’ only “down” week in Week 1 of the playoffs – a week in which he “only” scored 13.5 points, which was still 3rd on Sporty Strauss’ team. In the other two weeks, Davante Adams averaged about 28 fantasy points per week in two dominant performances. It was made even better by the fact that Strauss’ Packers clinched an early 1-seed BYE. It’s been a great season for Sporty Strauss, and he still gets to look forward to his Packers Super Bowl.

Playoffs LVP

  • Alvin Kamara

  • DTC Porkchop Express (Craig)

  • 11 points (over 2 games)

Notes: When DTC Porkchop Express made THIS trade, reactions were a bit more muted than the Kittle Deal. For Craig, it wasn’t even a deal he was ridiculously high on. But when you have a chance to get elite talent like Alvin Kamara, you usually take it. Unfortunately, Kamara absolutely shit the bed down the stretch due to the Saints’ QB woes. As the season concludes, DTC Porkchop Express can’t be particularly happy with his investment at this point finishing with the lowest points of any playoff team in the League of Leagues.

However, had he missed the playoffs, he might have gotten 0 points with how bad his team performed.

REGULAR SEASON SUPERLATIVES

Regular Season MVP

  • Justin Herbert

  • Wait ‘Til Next Year (Kyle)

  • 337 points

Notes: There may have been clearer players to pick than this, but none of the TRULY dominant performances this year are on the League of Leagues’ best teams. Cooper Kupp or Jonathan Taylor would be no-brainers if they played in the championship, but the teams that made it were built on stellar depth, not dominant stars.

Now, Josh Allen was the #1 scoring player on the year. The aforementioned Tom Brady was a snake pick and finished top-5. But NO PLAYER in the League of Leagues meant more to his team than Justin Herbert, that’s for certain.

Justin Herbert went for a pretty penny: $31 to Wait ‘Til Next Year who only drafted 3 players in the auction. After that, Justin Herbert when on to win 3 WEEKLY MVPs (!!!), which is absurd. That means that Wait ‘Til Next Year had at least 3 close games this week in which Justin Herbert was the difference between winning and losing.

While Kyle was still a bottom-4 team at the end of the regular season, he still won a couple of Consolation games and secured himself 5 points towards the end of season total. Kyle scored the least amount of points of any team in the League of Leagues, and he literally rode Herbert’s back for most of the season. That’s why Herbert gets the accolade.

Regular Season LVP

  • Justin Fields / Andy Dalton

  • Win’s Up Doc (Kyle)

  • 109 points / 35 points

Notes: Is choosing two players a cheat for the LVP of the season? Maybe, but Win’s Up Doc’s QB debacle is the primary reason for disappointment and 3-point finish that might destroy his chances of winning or placing. With the deepest group of RBs in the league, Doc should have been a much better team than he was. But not only did Justin Fields let him down with an average of 9 points per game as a fantasy quarterback, Doc didn’t have a reliable QB2 for most of the season meaning he was forced into starting Justin Fields’ or Andy Dalton'‘s poor performances week after week after week. That’s why this duo is the LVP.

There were many other considerations for this award, many of which you’ll see later on in this article. But these weren’t even bad draft picks. These weren’t season-injured players. These were simply players who should have been on benches that were forced to start.

Best Auction Draft Pick

  • Cooper Kupp

  • Cooper Troopers (Cooper)

  • $6 – 357 points

Notes: Cooper Kupp was the SECOND-TO-LAST player taken in the NFL auction draft, and somehow Cooper snuck him on to his roster with $0 remaining. One more dollar and Coop would have been stuck with leftover money with no chance to find another player. On top of that, Win’s Up Doc, Wait ‘Til Next Year and the Shepherd Goods Choppers ALL had money to draft this guy. They could have had the best WR in fantasy history at little cost.

Even more: Coop drafted for only one reason: his name was Cooper. It was a stroke of luck. Going forward, while Kupp isn’t particularly young, he’s still got a few years of great football ahead of him on the Cooper Troopers with Matthew Stafford at QB.

Top-5 Auction Picks

  1. Cooper Kupp (WR1) – Cooper Troopers – $6

  2. Ja’Marr Chase (WR4) – $traight Cash Homie – $13

  3. Jonathan Taylor (RB1) – Ornery Otters – $32

  4. Austin Ekeler (RB2) – Win’s Up Doc – $7

  5. Kirk Cousins (QB11) – Las Cabras** – $3

** traded to $traight Cash Homie

Worst Auction Pick

  • Allen Robinson

  • MN Moose Knuckles (Chris Hall)

  • $11 – 63 points

Notes: The MN Moose Knuckles draft was a disaster, but it’s not completely hopeless for Hall. Allen Robinson could find a much better landing spot somewhere else next season and become productive again, but the production he got this season was non-existent. 5.7 points per game is untenable, and the MN Moose Knuckles correctly benched him early in the season. Altogether, the “Worst Auction Picks” section could be a litany of Hall’s misendeavors.

Worst-5 Auction Picks

(no season-long injured players allowed)

  1. Allen Robinson (WR88) – MN Moose Knuckles – $11

  2. Saquon Barkley (RB33) – Win’s Up Doc – $31

  3. Russell Wilson (QB19) – The BamO’s – $31

  4. Jerry Jeudy (WR89) – Ornery Otters – $4

  5. Trey Lance (QB40) – DTC Porkchop Express – $14

Notes: Surprisingly, there aren’t that many terrible auction picks. Anyone who didn’t return value was hurt, and nobody besides Robinson just plain disappointed. Saquon Barkley would fall into that category as well, but as a starting RB, he still was a player that had use, unlike Robinson.

It also might not be fair to put Trey Lance in this category based on the fact we knew he might not start year 1, but $14 is a lot of budget to spend on a redshirt. Those $14 could have gone to far better causes.

Best Snake Draft Pick

  • Deebo Samuel

  • Las Cabras (Trevor/Jordan)

  • 7.10 pick – 142nd player taken

    • WR2 – 237 points

Notes: 141 players were taken ahead of Deebo Samuel, which is a travesty. To make matters worse, 3 of the 4 teams DIRECTLY ahead of Las Cabras in Round 7 took receivers. Their names were Elijah Moore (Strauss), Curtis Samuel (Ca$h) and Christian Kirk (MN Moose Knuckles). All left the biggest steal of the draft available sitting in the late 7th round of the draft. It looks so silly now.

Top-10 Snake Picks

  1. Deebo Samuel (WR2) – Las Cabras (Rd 7)

  2. Jaylen Waddle (WR21) – DTC Porkchop Express (Rd 5)

  3. Tom Brady (QB3) – Sporty Strauss (Rd 3)

  4. Michael Pittman (WR19) – $traight Cash Homie (Rd 8)

  5. Mike Williams (WR11) – Las Cabras (Rd 8)

  6. James Conner (RB5) – Wait ‘Til Next Year** (Rd 6)

  7. Jalen Hurts (QB8) – SG Choppers (Rd 1)

  8. Elijah Mitchell (RB23) – Win’s Up Doc (Rd 9)

  9. James Robinson (RB22) – SG Choppers (Rd 3)

  10. Brandin Cooks (WR18) – Sporty Strauss (Rd 4)

** traded to $traight Cash Homie

Notes: Deebo Samuel’s draft position was a complete oversight. It’s not that he should have gone significantly higher, but a super young receiver with at least some track record in what is a normal 12th Round of a snake draft is absurd value.

Jaylen Waddle was perhaps an even bigger oversight, however, given that any rookies are traditionally valued much higher in a start-up draft. All of these young WRs were super picks, and Devonta Smith couldn’t even fit on this list. Pittman. Williams. These are the types of players to target in next year’s snake draft.

On the running backs angle, a lot of this is a little bit based on luck. Conner, Mitchell and Robinson are all touchdown-scoring RBs who fell into starting jobs and performed admirably. They are lower on this list, because the future value of each player is far more uncertain than the WRs.

Worst Snake Pick

  • Tarik Cohen

  • The BamO’s (Sam)

  • 4.12 – 102nd player taken

    • 0 Points

Notes: Brandin Cooks, Michael Carter and Dallas Goedert were the next 3 picks taken, not to mention any of the Round 4 or later steals listed above. Drafting a player who didn’t play a snap this season like Tarik Cohen is a reason why Sam continually had to mortgage his future to compete this season, and it’ll hurt down the road.

Worst-5 Snake Picks

  1. Tarik Cohen (RB??) – The BamO’s (Rd 4)

  2. Julio Jones (WR105) – The BamO’s (Rd 1)

  3. Tyler Higbee (TE20) – The Pullies (Rd 2)

  4. Mike Davis (RB38) – The Pullies (Rd 1)

  5. Larry Rountree (RB105) – MN Moose Knuckles (Rd 5)

  6. Trey Sermon (RB89) – Cooper Troopers (Rd 4)

  7. Michael Thomas (WR??) – Ornery Otters (Rd 2)

  8. Mecole Hardman (WR60) – The BamO’s (Rd 2)

  9. Greg Zuerlein (K12) – MN Moose Knuckles (Rd 9)

  10. Darren Waller (TE18) – Wait ‘Til Next Year (Rd 1)

Notes: We’ve discussed the Mike Davis-Tyler Higbee first round snake turn that destroyed The Pullies ad nauseam, but a TE in the first round of the snake was simply a terrible decision by any team that did that. TEs are simply not that valuable in the League of Leagues. Darren Waller was the 3rd pick in the snake draft, and he just didn’t make a difference for Wait ‘Til Next Year before getting hurt. Season-ending injuries don’t usually count in these rankings, but Waller seemed like he could come back for most of his injury and the nagging wound makes it feel different.

Beyond that, there are three BamO’s picks in here. Julio Jones is also an injury problem, but he played in plenty of games and hurt The BamO’s in almost every single one.

The MN Moose Knuckles’ baffling picks of Rountree in the 5th and a kicker in the 9th help round out this list with the additional entry of Michael Thomas who didn’t play a snap and was drafted in the 2nd round. If you know someone is injured prior to the season, especially with the negative whispers of Thomas’, that’s still on the team that drafted him. It’s not a fluke injury.

Best Waiver Addition

  • Cordarrelle Patterson

  • Shepherd Goods Choppers (Jordan)

  • RB9

    • WR2 – 237 points

Notes: Was there any doubt it’d be RB1?

Top-10 Waiver Additions

  1. Cordarrelle Patterson (RB9) – SG Choppers

  2. Hunter Renfrow (WR17) – SG Choppers

  3. Dawson Knox (TE5) – Las Cabras**

  4. Zach Ertz (TE10) – SG Choppers

  5. Devonta Freeman (RB31) – The Pullies

** traded to $traight Cash Homie

Notes: The SG Choppers are the KINGS of the waiver wire. Their team was built on it. Renfrow and Patterson were his best players down the stretch, and Ertz was an excellent contributor. However, this is not a recipe for future success, and Jordan is going to have his hands full trying to bring this roster back to the playoffs next season.
