Wait ‘Til Next year trade grade: B+
Las Cabras trade grade: A-

Trade Summary:
There was a time when Kareem Hunt was being peddled for low offers. He could have been had for a 3rd or 4th Round NFL pick at one point which is less than the 5th Round MLB Wait’ Til Next Year just paid ALONG with a top MLB prospect.

That being said, this is a GREAT deal for Wait ‘Til Next Year for one reason and one reason alone: it frees up a Minor League roster spot for Wait ‘Til Next Year. With the rest of the league immensely struggling to figure out how to value, research and think about the Minor Leagues, Wait ‘Til Next Year is at a MASSIVE advantage right now.

With the additional minor league spots that he created by trading Veen, a prospect who has been trending slightly downward recently, he added two prospects who have skyrocketed the rankings recently whilst everyone was sleeping – Gunnar Henderson (ranked as the 15th-best prospect – better than Veen) and Pete Crow-Armstrong (ranked as the 28th-best prospect). Instead of trading Hunt, Las Cabras could have just picked both those guys up if they were doing their research.

That being said, a 5th Round MLB pick is still a good asset to get for hunt, particularly after Wait ‘Til Next Year traded his 1st MLB already. But Kyle is correctly assuming that he has a significant edge in MLB the way it is based on his current keepers and based on how much research he is putting into MLB right now. The gap between Kyle’s knowledge of the sport and everyone else is absolutely massive right now.

Wait ‘Til Next Year is already FIRMLY the favorite to win the League of Leagues (comfortably) next year, and adding to his NFL squad only helps. Wait ‘Til Next Year will probably dominate for the next few years.

However, Hunt is really only a short-term addition, and a backup RB at that. He’s 27 before the start of the season and, while he has less tread on his tires for obvious reasons, RBs don’t last much longer. Kyle needs immediate impact at the RB position, and Hunt was one of the better names available. Here’s his current roster.

QB1: Justin Herbert (QB4)
QB2: Mac Jones (QB19)

RB1: Cam Akers (RB12)
RB2: Clyde Edwards-Helaire (RB28)

WR1: CeeDee Lamb (WR3)
WR2: DK Metcalf (WR10)

FLEX1: JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR36)
FLEX2: Kareem Hunt (RB32)

TE: Darren Waller (TE5)

BENCH: Rookie WR (likely ranked in the 90s)
Daniel Jones (QB28)

Kareem Hunt fills a need at RB3 for what is now a very well-rounded roster. He will undoubtedly be using a top-2 Strauss pick and ending up with a rookie WR who can immediately step in as a WR4 or flex option if one of his players goes down.

Wait ‘Til Next Year just made a sly move to improve his NFL team, but Las Cabras’ MLB future also looks markedly better today too.
