Austin Meadows Trade

(3/14/22)

Shepherd Goods Choppers trades 6th Round MLB Pick (Pick 6.02 – Austin Meadows, OF, TB)

to

Sporty Strauss for Rondale Moore (WR, Cardinals), Brandin Cooks (WR, Texans) and DTC Porkchop Express 12th Round Pick (Pick 12.10)

Shepherd Goods trade grade: B+
Sporty Strauss trade grade: A-

Trade Summary:
This is another win-win trade, and finally a smart one from the Shepherd Goods Choppers. The pick Sporty Strauss got from the Choppers is right in the meat of the draft. It’s towards the end of keeper territory. It’s near the beginning of where big boy vets come out to play and teams don’t care about those keepers as much. It’s a fascinating part of the draft, and there’s real value to Sporty Strauss’ selection of Austin Meadows, a corner outfielder on Tampa who was a VERY solid pick at that point in the draft for a lineup that looks dominant.

A real arms race in Nolo’s Division has begun between Sporty Strauss and Win’s Up Doc, two teams who just competed against each other in a BRUTAL NBA slugfest. Win’s Up Doc came out on top there. Sporty Strauss comes out on top in this trade.

For the Shepherd Goods Choppers, this trade salvages a piss poor football situation into something VERY manageable. Here are his current keepers:

  1. Mahomes (3rd)

  2. McCaffrey (9th)

  3. Jalen Hurts (40th)

  4. Ezekiel Elliott (66th)

  5. Brandin Cooks (96th)

  6. James Robinson (109th)

  7. Rondale Moore (119th)

  8. Adam Thielen (121st)

  9. DJ Chark (125th)

  10. Corey Davis (134th)

Without Brandin Cooks and Rondale Moore in there, Cordarrelle Patterson and Hunter Henry would have been kept. While this is a lot of wide receivers to carry, it’s not a bad way to do it. Rondale becomes the young upside guy while Cooks and Thielen carry the weight THIS season. This team isn’t THAT bad now and, hopefully, Chark and/or Moore can hit in the future. Dye also gives himself room to make moves in the future without being desperate – an underated asset in the League of Leagues.

With an NFL Team that is a little bit more win-now, making a move like this to shore things up is a BIG win for the Choppers, who weren’t having a terrible League of Leagues season at the moment, but the start of the MLB draft really threw things off. He clearly has the worst MLB team in the league of leagues, but he’s consistently gone young and he’s going to build this roster from the bottom up.
