Late-January Stock Up / Stock Down Report

Late-January Stock Up / Stock Down Report

Some players throughout the season move up or down in value. Many times, these movements directly correlate towards a change in a team’s rankings. These posts will capture these value change in ALL 3 SPORTS. They’ll primarily focus on in-season players, but if injuries or player movement happens in off-season sports, that’ll be denoted as well.

STOCK UP Players

  1. Herbert Jones (SF/PF, Pelicans) – Win’s Up Doc

  2. Cam Akers (RB, Rams) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

  3. Joe Burrow (QB, Bengals) – The Pullies

  4. Gabriel Davis (WR, Bills) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

  5. Ayo Dosunmu (SG, Bulls) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

  6. Jalen Suggs (PG/SG, Magic) – MN Moose Knuckles

  7. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SG/PG, Thunder) – Las Cabras

  8. Caleb Martin (SG/SF, Heat) – Win’s Up Doc

  9. Marvin Bagley (PF, Kings) – Shepherd Goods Choppers

  10. Kevin Love (PF, Cavaliers) – Sporty Strauss

  • Herbert Jones (SF/PF, Pelicans) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 115th Overall Dynasty (NEW)

    • #HUNK status

    • 21.2 ppg on the season – 25.1 PPG over the last 15 days

    • 29.5 mpg on the season – 32.9 mpg over the last 15 days

Of all the things that could happen, how doest the best team in the league stumble into a LEGITIMATE #Hunk like Herbert Jones? As much as Win’s Up Doc knows the NBA, this feels like a doctor’s stroke of luck. Oat will take it. But there’s still a lot to be determined in rookie Herb Jones’ future. The first question is whether he be able to play with Zion when the big boy from the $traight Cash Homies comes back. So Herb is an interesting buy candidate for a team that needs a #Hunk, but there’s risk involved.

  • Cam Akers (RB, Rams) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

    • 58th Overall Dynasty – RB18

    • 163 total yards in two playoff games

This comeback from the torn achilles in July by Cam Akers is remarkable, and Wait ‘Til Next Year is going to reap the benefits. While Akers hasn’t looked spectacular in the NFL Playoffs, he’s showing his old burst and will only improve by next year. Akers is only ranked as RB18 in dynasty right now, but expect that number to keep climbing. Wait ‘Til Next Year might have taken him earlier than he should have in last year’s draft, but it’s a pick that could pay huge dividends down the road.

  • Joe Burrow (QB, Bengals) – The Pullies

    • 10th Overall Dynasty – QB5

Joe Burrow cemented his status as one of the best QBs in the league by making it to the AFC Championship Game in his second year as a pro. With two receivers on rookie contracts and cap space, this OL and offense should continue to improve. Burrow is now one of the premiere assets in all the League of Leagues and and absolute draft-day steal for The Pullies.

  • Gabriel Davis (WR, Bills) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

    • 131st Overall Dynasty – WR52

    • 201 yards + 4TDs in AFC Divisional Game

Gabriel Davis is sure to climb these NFL Rankings as the offseason progresses. Emmanuel Sanders was only signed to a 1-year deal. Cole Beasley will be 33 years old next season. And Stefon Diggs is entering the years where WRs start to decline. There’s a chance Gabriel Davis is Josh Allen’s #1 receiver for a good portion of their careers, and could take a huge leap next year. It’d be really hard for someone NOT to keep Gabriel Davis as one of their 10 keepers just for the upside he showed against the Chiefs. Wait ‘Til Next Year has a lot of fringe keepers (Daniel Jones, Matt Ryan, Kenny Golladay, JuJu Smith-Schuster, DeVante Parker), but Gabriel Davis has to skyrocket to the top. Wait ‘Til Next Year is a perfect team to target in trades for NFL talent if you need it.

  • Ayo Dosunmu (SG, Bulls) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

    • #Hunk Status (and CURRENT PS Status)

    • 13.8 ppg on the season – 26.6ppg over the last week

    • 22.5 mpg on the season – 38.3 mpg mpg over the last week

Back to the NBA, Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmo has jumped into the fantasy radar. By almost doubling his points AND minutes on the season over the last week, he’s become a nightly contributor. Sure, he’s a few bad games, but he’s also had some big ones. When it’s all said and done, Wait ‘Til Next Year has had a nice boost to his future outlook with Akers, Davis and Dosunmu. But we’ll see if he’s this week’s Omer Yurtseven – a player who makes this list that we may never hear from again.

  • Jalen Suggs (PG/SG, Magic) – MN Moose Knuckles

    • 80th Overall Dynasty

    • 20.9 ppg on the season – 35.5 ppg over the last week

    • 25.5 mpg on the season – 34 mpg over the last week

Jalen Suggs has been a complete and utter bust up to this point in the season. One might say that he has ‘sugged’. But signs of life are evident, and 35.5ppg over a week is nothing to scoff at. That’s far higher than rookie-leading Mobley and Cade’s rookie production. The talent is there for the MN kid, and he could produce a boost during the MN Moose Knuckles race to the playoffs down the stretch, dunking on LoL like his poster over DeMar DeRozan on Sunday.

  • Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SG/PG, Thunder) – Las Cabras

    • 13th Overall Dynasty (-3)

    • 35.8 ppg on the season – 45.4 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 35 mpg on the season – 35.3 mpg over the last 15 days

There was some concern about SGA being the top-flight option he was drafted to be, particularly with the rise of Josh Giddey, but Shai has really turned it on recently. 45.4ppg, including multiple 50point games, is ELITE, and Las Cabras need their young stud to be that elite pair to the Joker to be a competitive team down the stretch. They need all they can get to win out and sneak into the playoffs.

  • Caleb Martin (SG/SF, Heat) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 18.4 ppg on the season – 27 ppg over the last week

    • 23.2 mpg on the season – 27.7 mpg over the last week

Somehow, Win’s Up Doc knows how to find these guys. Caleb Martin has been a marginally effective player all season – he rarely kills you with his production – but he’s played well over the last week as his minutes have risen. He’s outperformed Duncan Robinson all season. He’s stepped up for injured players. While he doesn’t have a ton of long-term upside, he’s a solid piece on anyone’s bench down the stretch as Jimmy Butler’s health has been suspect. Martin has been a player taking advantage of his opportunity every chance he can.

  • Marvin Bagley III (PF, Kings) – Shepherd Goods Choppers

    • 18.6 ppg on the season – 27.6 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 21.9 mpg on the season – 26.4 mpg over the last 15 days

The season-long averages for Bagley are misleading – this is a player who hasn’t played very much, but that’s changed over the last month. Marvin Bagley is still a young player, and he’s building up some trade value before the NBA trade deadline. He could find a sweet landing spot on a young team, but the Shepherd Goods Choppers are just happy to see him on the court. At least Jordan Dye didn’t take Bagley over Luka Doncic in the draft.

  • Kevin Love (PF, Cavaliers) – Sporty Strauss

    • 192nd Overall Dynasty (+56)

    • 24.2 ppg on the season – 25.1 ppg over the last month

    • 21.5 mpg on the season – 23.8 mpg over the last month

Kevin Love has found his way back into the rotation, both for an NBA squad and a League of Leagues squad. We shouldn’t overstate his effectiveness, but he actually has some upside down the stretch of the season and into the future. He’s a great fantasy player – good shooting percentage and rebounds – and he would be a much larger factor on another NBA team that doesn’t have the front court depth that the Cavaliers have.

STOCK DOWN Players

  1. Cole Anthony (PG, Magic) – Las Cabras

  2. PJ Washington (PF/C, Hornets) – DTC Porkchop Express

  3. Darrell Henderson (RB, Rams) – $traight Cash Homie

  4. Al Horford (C/PF, Celtics) – DTC Porkchop Express

  5. Clint Capela (C, Hawks) – DTC Porkchop Express

  6. Ryan Tannehill (QB, Titans) – DTC Porkchop Express

  7. Richaun Holmes (C/PF, Kings) – MN Moose Knuckles

  8. Jalen Hurts (QB, Eagles) – Shepherd Goods Choppers

  9. Jrue Holiday (PG/SG, Bucks) – The BamO’s

  10. Trey Lance (QB, 49ers) – DTC Porkchop Express

  • Cole Anthony (PG, Magic) – Las Cabras

    • 73rd Overall Dynasty

    • #Hunk Status

    • 30.5 ppg on the season – 17.6 ppg over the last week

    • 33.1 mpg on the season – 30.3 mpg over the last week

As is so often the case in the Stock Up / Stock Down lists, the rise of one player spells the fall of another. With Jalen Suggs’ resurgence, Cole Anthony’s fantasy production has taken a HUGE hit. 17.6 PPG isn’t startable, and Las Cabras definitely needs him. While it’s unlikely that Cole Anthony continues to play this poorly, it’s also unlikely that he ever regains the form of a 30 ppg player. He was still a steal of a draft pick, but Las Cabras needed early-season Cole to improve their LEAGUE-WORST keepers.

  • PJ Washington (PF/C, Hornets) – DTC Porkchop Express

    • 98th Overall Dynasty

    • 21.3 ppg on the season – 14.6 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 23.8 mpg on the season – 19.9 mpg over the last 15 days

PJ Washington was a player selected in the auction portion of the draft, and, BOY, has he not lived up to that. He’s helped DTC Porkchop Express during certain portions of the season, but he’s been a significant net negative over the last month of the season. And over the last couple of weeks, he hasn’t even scored more than 15 ppg. His minutes are fluctuating, and he dogged himself with an ejection this week after playing 4 minutes. It’s messy out there for PJ Washington, but he’s still a good role player with a future in the league.

  • Darrell Henderson (RB, Rams) – $traight Cash Homie

    • 105th Overall Dynasty (RB32) – Henderson

Suddenly, $traight Cash Homie looks like he might be down a keeper in NFL… and his keepers already felt tenuous. If Cam Akers stays healthy, Darrell Henderson is not a player Jack can count on. With one more year on his rookie contract and a post-injury RB on the depth chart ahead of him, Darrell Henderson’s prospects for 2022 are dubious at best. If $traight Cash Homie wants to wait for a year to see if Henderson ends up on a new team as the lead back, he’ll have to push through a down season next year from the talented back. But Henderson is far too injury prone for a team to count on as an RB1 anyways.

  • Al Horford (C/PF, Celtics) – DTC Porkchop Express

    • 176th Overall Dynasty

    • 27.6 ppg on the season – 21.1 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 29 mpg on the season – 27.1 mpg over the last 15 days

Horford’s minutes haven’t tanked, so this scoring output differential is entirely marred by performance. The Celtics are a little bit of a mess. Horford is a steady-eddy player, but he’s getting old. Expect his play to continue to decline as the season goes along, ceding minutes to better players like Robert Williams and small-ball lineups with Jayson Tatum at the 4.

  • Clint Capela (C, Hawks) – DTC Porkchop Express

    • 42nd Overall Dynasty

    • 33.6 ppg on the season – 19.3 ppg over the last week

    • 28.5 mpg on the season – 26 mpg over the last week

Yes, Clint Capela just got back from a lengthy COVID-related absence, but there’s some concern here. (1) His minutes upon returning are similar to prior numbers – only a 2.5 minute difference, so he’s just not playing well. (2) Young bigs like Onyeka Okongwu played well in Capela’s absence. And (3) this is a team that has been floundering this season. There is still hope for DTC Porkchop Express, however, in that the Hawks are on a 4-game win streak and can claw themselves back into the postseason conversation. If they don’t, Capela might start taking a back seat down the stretch in the season when DTC really needs him in the postseason which would be a crushing blow to Craig’s aging roster.

  • Ryan Tannehill (QB, Titans) – DTC Porkchop Express

    • 74th Overall Dynasty (QB21)

    • 15.4 ppg this season (QB13)

    • 6.2 points in the divisional round

Oooooof! DTC Porkchop Express is getting hammered in this Stock Down report, but there’s no way around it – Ryan Tannehill’s stock dropped significantly after his inability to perform against a poor Cincinnati defense at home. Tannehill is not in immediate risk of losing his starting job, but there’s officially long-term concerns about his competency as a starter in the NFL. He finished at QB13 in fantasy this season, which is fine, but it doesn’t feel like an optimistic situation going forward.

  • Richaun Holmes (C/PF, Kings) – MN Moose Knuckles

    • 45th Overall Dynasty

    • 25.5 ppg on the season – 21 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 25.8 mpg on the season – 23 mpg over the last 15 days

For a player only scoring 25.5 ppg on the season, 45th Overall seems like a high rank on the dynasty ranking sheet, even for a young player like Holmes. He had a bad week two weeks ago, but he’s started to pick it back up over the last week, improving above that 25.5 ppg mark on the season in his past several games. But MN Moose Knuckles should want more from a talented player.

  • Jalen Hurts (QB, Eagles) – Shepherd Goods Choppers

    • 42nd Overall Dynasty (QB12)

    • 21.4 ppg this season (QB8)

    • 9.6 points in the divisional round

There’s NO WAY Jalen Hurts is finishing his rookie deal as the QB of the Philadelphia Eagles.Howie Roseman will move on before it’s all said and done, but Hurts likely gets one more year to see if he can improve his stock. Hurts might be able to land a job elsewhere, but the playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers really exposed his lack of pocket presence, arm strength and mental processing – all concerns that were there before. He’s a likable player, and he’s dynamite for fantasy against bad defenses or garbage time in the regular season … but the Shepherd Goods Choppers could get caught with their pants down when Roseman makes a move off of Hurts after the 2022 season (or before ??).

  • Jrue Holiday (PG/SG, Bucks) – The BamO’s

    • 51st Overall Dynasty

    • 33.5 ppg on the season – 24.1 ppg over the last week

    • 32.5 mpg on the season – 27 mpg over the last week

Jrue Holiday is another post-COVID slump player. His minutes weren’t as high coming back from his return, and he wasn’t terrible when he was on the court. This should be a temporary stay for Jrue Holiday who should be back to form in short order. Unlike with the Hawks and Clint Capela, the Bucks are an excellent team, and they need Jrue to defend their championship.

  • Trey Lance (QB, 49ers) – DTC Porkchop Express

    • 33rd Overall Dynasty

As Jimmy Garoppolo’s success continues, the odds that Trey Lance is the starter for the streaking 49ers next year are becoming slightly slimmer. Lance is still the odds-on favorite to be the starter, but there’s a whiff of uncertainty there. For DTC Porkchop Express, he’ll take all the 49ers success he can get, regardless of who is starting. But if Jimmy Garoppolo is the starter next year for the 49ers, Craig McCall’s keeper conundrum (12 guys NOW in the top-96) becomes a bit of a mess. He might have to keep both Trey Lance and Jimmy G, which wouldn’t let him keep Zach Wilson or Brandon Aiyuk (along with Michael Carter and Pat Freiermuth).
