Early-January Stock Up / Stock Down Report

Some players throughout the season move up or down in value. Many times, these movements directly correlate towards a change in a team’s rankings. These posts will capture these value change in ALL 3 SPORTS. They’ll primarily focus on in-season players, but if injuries or player movement happens in off-season sports, that’ll be denoted as well.

Early-January STOCK UP Players

  1. Anfernee Simons (SG/PG, Trailblazers) – The Pullies

  2. Josh Giddey (PG/SG, Thunder) – DTC Porkchop Express

  3. Malik Monk (SG, Lakers) – Win’s Up Doc

  4. Omer Yurtseven (C, Heat) – Ornery Otters

  5. Fred VanVleet (PG/SG, Raptors) – Shepherd Goods Choppers

  6. Jarred Vanderbilt (PF, Timberwolves) – MN Moose Knuckles

  7. Ja Morant (PG, Grizzlies) – The Pullies

  8. Brandon Clarke (PF/C, Grizzlies) – Win’s Up Doc

  9. Amir Coffey (SG, Clippers) – The Pullies

  10. Cam Reddish (SF, Knicks**) – DTC Porkchop Express

  • Anfernee Simons (SG/PG, Trailblazers) – The Pullies

    • 86th Overall Dynasty (+80)

    • 19.7 ppg on the season – 35.4 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 26.1 mpg on the season – 35.7 mpg over the last 15 days

With the Damian Lillard surgery, Anfernee Simons has stepped up as the biggest benefactor. McCollum is still unavailable to play, and Simons is drawing HEAVY minutes every night, giving him a great opportunity to cement himself as an NBA role player. His future is interesting. In the past, he would have been the perfect practice squad candidate stashed on someone’s rosters. Now, he’s stepping up in a CONTRACT YEAR. Surely, some team will sign Simons to a nice contract next year. Hopefully for The Pullies, that means another starting gig, giving them a good 22-year-old keeper.

  • Josh Giddey (PG/SG, Thunder) – DTC Porkchop Express

    • 55th Overall Dynasty

    • 28.4 ppg on the season – 37.5 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 30.7 mpg on the season – 33.8 mpg over the last 15 days

Giddey was one of the steals of the draft. People made fun of DTC Porkchop Express for the pick, but he’s been way more than Craig ever could have asked for. And lately, his play has been picking up even more, becoming the youngest player every to score a triple double in a game.

  • Malik Monk (SG, Lakers) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 132nd Overall Dynasty (+66)

    • 19.8 ppg on the season – 33.9 ppg over the last 7 days

    • 26.1 mpg on the season – 31 mpg over the last 7 days

Malik Monk is offsetting some of the poor performances by Win’s Up Doc shown later on this list. He’s provided a huge boost to the Los Angeles Lakers and to Doc, and he’s a showcase for why the waivers in this league are NOT too small. HALF of the players on this list (including the top-2) are waiver additions. It just takes time and research to find the correct players, but many of them are providing huge boosts to competitive teams right now.

  • Omer Yurtseven (C, Heat) – Ornery Otters

    • 16 ppg on the season – 36.8 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 15.2 mpg on the season – 32 mpg mpg over the last 15 days

Injuries provide someone with the opportunity to establish themselves, and Omer Yurtseven is another prime example of that. Bam Adebayo will be back at some point this season, but Yurtseven has established himself as a rotation player even when that happens. He’s only 23 years old and is a rookie, potentially sliding onto the Ornery Otters practice squad with continued dominant play.

  • Fred VanVleet (PG/SG, Raptors) – Shepherd Goods Choppers

    • 21st Overall Dynasty

    • 38.3 ppg on the season – 49.3 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 37.7 mpg on the season – 37.8 mpg mpg over the last 15 days

Our first NON-WAIVER player on this list, Fred VanVleet was one of the steals of the draft. His minutes have not gone up recently, but his production has… perhaps finally giving the Shepherd Goods Choppers a chance to win this week. VanVleet is still young enough in NBA years, but he’s not getting much younger. As a clear top-21 player in dynasty, the Shepherd Goods Choppers should consider moving him for assets in football and younger NBA players.

  • Jarred Vanderbilt (PF, Timberwolves) – MN Moose Knuckles

    • 122nd Overall Dynasty (+75)

    • 24.3 ppg on the season – 40.4 ppg over the last 7 days

    • 25.5 mpg on the season – 28.7 mpg over the last 7 days

Another player that was once scoop-able from waivers, Jarred Vanderbilt is a nightly contributor at this point in the season. He can have nights where he scores close to 50 – all rebound and defensive production. He’s a great asset in a thin PF position.

  • Ja Morant (PG, Grizzlies) – The Pullies

    • 22nd Overall Dynasty (+4)

    • 39.3 ppg on the season – 43.7 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 32.5 mpg on the season – 32.7 mpg over the last 15 days

This ranking isn’t so much about Ja Morant’s CURRENT production, but more the fact that he’s leading the 3rd-place Grizzlies to wins on his back. Morant was the 31st-ranked player on the initial cheat sheet, and he went for way too low of $$ to The Pullies. It’s clear Morant is going to be one of the best players in the actual league, and Pete and Eric will have him for a very long time.

  • Brandon Clarke (PF/C, Trailblazers) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 201st Overall Dynasty

    • 20.2 ppg on the season – 28 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 17.8 mpg on the season – 22.9 mpg over the last 15 days

Clarke is another recipient of the Grizzlies’ win streak. 5 mpg uptick is leading to an 8-point increase in ppg average for the big man who has always had promise. He’s an ideal stash on the practice squad if he can continue to refine his game.

  • Amir Coffey (SG, Clippers) – The Pullies

    • 13.2 ppg on the season – 24 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 19.7 mpg on the season – 30.3 mpg over the last 15 days

A bit of a Gophers shout out here, but Amir Coffey is certainly worthy of recognition. Pullies players are all over this list as they hit their stride, and Coffey has been a perfectly acceptable play recently. Hopefully, he lands a nice contract somewhere next year. He could also be a good practice squad player for someone.

  • Cam Reddish (SF/SG, Knicks**) – DTC Porkchop Express

    • 111th Overall Dynasty

    • 17.1 ppg on the season

    • ** traded to the New York Knicks on 1/13

Cam Reddish has long been stuck behind other players on the Hawks’ depth chart. While there is no guarantee he performs better in New York, it’s an exciting opportunity to play with a ball-handler in RJ Barrett who knows Reddish’s game from their college days. If Reddish can cement himself as a good, long 3pt shooter in the NBA, he can provide value for fantasy. But DTC Porkchop Express shouldn’t get his hopes up too high.

Mid-January STOCK DOWN Players

  1. Damian Lillard (PG, Trailblazers) – Cooper Troopers

  2. Mo Bamba (C, Magic) – Win’s Up Doc

  3. Myles Turner (C/PF, Pacers) – $traight Cash Homie

  4. Jordan Poole (SG/PG, Warriors) – Win’s Up Doc

  5. Nickel Alexander-Walker (SG, Pelicans) – Win’s Up Doc

  6. Dillon Brooks (SG/SF, Grizzlies) – Sporty Strauss

  7. Patty Mills (PG, Nets) – DTC Porkchop Express

  8. Deandre Ayton (C, Suns) – Sporty Strauss

  9. Ivica Zubac (C, Clippers) – Ornery Otters

  10. Keldon Johnson (SF,PF) – Ornery Otters

  • Damian Lillard (PG, Trailblazers) – Cooper Troopers

    • 33rd Overall Dynasty

    • 35.6 ppg on the season

    • Had abdominal surgery that will keep him out for 6-8 weeks

Dolla Dame is the biggest bust of the year outside of Zion. His injury problems can make it even more confusing for the Cooper Troopers. However, a team, particularly one with a locked-in BYE, could make a play for Dame, hoping to get him back for the fantasy playoffs which start in 6 weeks. Even if Coop holds onto him, he could be a difference-maker down in the stretch run.

  • Mo Bamba (C, Magic) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 76th Overall Dynasty

    • 27.9 ppg on the season – 22.5 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 28 mpg on the season – 25.2 mpg over the last 15 days

This is a name that Win’s Up Doc should have offloaded earlier. Bamba had never had a good NBA season – nothing even close, but Oat elected to stay with the upside of the young player instead of cashing in on a late draft pick. Now, Bamba is definitely a productive player – 22.5 ppg is fine – but he’s no longer a keep-able asset and his value runs out at the end of this season.

  • Myles Turner (C/PF, Pacers) – $traight Cash Homie

    • 30.3 ppg on the season – 22.9 ppg over the last 7 days

    • 29.6 mpg on the season – 25 mpg over the last 7 days

Myles Turner is a big man on the opposite side of that spectrum. Right now is probably his lowest value. As he continues to get phased out of the Pacers’ plan, his minutes are going down ever so slightly. Sabonis is the offensive focus, and Turner can’t be happy about his current role on the team. Hopefully, for both $traight Cash Homie and Turner, he gets dealt to a team that will use him more. But his long-term value is sinking more and more.

  • Jordan Poole (SG/PG, Warriors) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 88th Overall Dynasty

    • 24.1 ppg on the season – 18.9 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 29.6 mpg on the season – 24.3 mpg over the last 15 days

With Klay Thompson’s return, minutes have to disappear for someone. Klay’s early minutes are low, and will likely increase as the season goes along. Those minutes are likely stolen from Jordan Poole who recently dropped off the Mendoza line of scoring over 20 points per night down to less than 19. This means he was once a startable player, but now he’s just a bench backup who can sub in when Doc needs it.

  • Nickel Alexander-Walker (SG, Pelicans) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 134th Overall Dynasty (-34)

    • 20.2 ppg on the season – 12.4 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 27.2 mpg on the season – 21.3 mpg over the last 15 days

NAW is a similar player to Poole, but he doesn’t have the Klay Thompson concerns. He just has bad play concerns. Right now, he’s scoring closer to .5 points per minute rather than the 1:1 ratio everyone likes to see.

  • Dillon Brooks (SG/SF, Grizzlies) – Sporty Strauss

    • 157th Overall Dynasty (+80)

    • 22.9 ppg on the season – 35.4 ppg over the last 15 days

    • Ankle injury will sideline him for a month +

This is all a short-term injury knock for Mr. Brooks. He’ll be back before the fantasy playoffs and will hopefully regain the truly excellent form he was in prior to the ankle injury.

  • Patty Mills (PG, Nets) – DTC Porkchop Express

    • 220nd Overall Dynasty

    • 19.4 ppg on the season – 15.4 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 30.8 mpg on the season – 32 mpg over the last 15 days

At least DTC Porkchop Express will know when Mills is a startable player. On the road, where Kyrie Irving is likely to suit up, Mills is an easy sit. At home games, hopefully Mills cashes in on his high minutes total to score enough points to satiate Craig.

  • Deandre Ayton (C, Suns) – Sporty Strauss

    • 31st Overall Dynasty

    • 33.2 ppg on the season – 26 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 30.8 mpg on the season – 31 mpg over the last 15 days

There shouldn’t be any huge concerns with Ayton. His minutes aren’t going down, so this is likely a slump. Even still, Sporty Strauss needs Ayton to dominate if he wants to have a chance at winning his second title in two sports in the inaugural League of Leagues season.

  • Ivica Zubac (C, Clippers) – Ornery Otters

    • 159th Overall Dynasty (-11)

    • 22.8 ppg on the season – 15.2 ppg over the last 7 days

    • 24.5 mpg on the season – 18 mpg over the last 15 days

The Clippers mix and match minutes frequently, so there’s no heavy concerns with Zubac either. But 15.2 ppg is almost untenable, and the Otters now need to worry about whether or not to bench Zubac nightly. He could become a thorn in the side for a team trying to climb back into the race.

  • Keldon Johnson (SF/PF, Spurs) – Ornery Otters

    • 102nd Overall Dynasty

    • 23.7 ppg on the season – 15.9 ppg over the last 15 days

    • 30.6 mpg on the season – 30.4 mpg over the last 15 days

Another Ornery Otters player who seems to be on a clear slump. The minutes aren’t decreasing, but an 8ppg downtick is worrisome. Keldon is on the verge of being unstartable, and for a PG heavy team like the Ornery Otters, poor production from the likes of Johnson and Zubac definitely hurts without as many players to step up for them.
