(PLAYOFFS) Cabras-Choppers and BamO’s-Strauss are your matchups. Congrats to those who’ve made it this far! Here, we’re going to look at where each of these teams stand in season-long play. One of the strangest quirks is that only one of these teams in the Final 4 of the NFL is currently in the NBA playoffs, so all of these teams have a lot to gain by winning ANY games in this tournament. On top of that, The BamO’s, Las Cabras AND the Shepherd Goods Choppers all face long odds to make the playoffs in NBA, giving other teams plenty of opportunity to win the League of Leagues. As each week goes by, the magic # of winning the League of Leagues continues to go down to a mid-20’s target. Whoever gets 24 or 25 points now stands an excellent chance of winning it all.

For The BamO’s, they have the most at stake with a mortgaged future and little chance to make up points in other sports. Right now, Sam can’t bank on making the playoffs in either NBA or MLB, so his only real chance of winning is to win it all in football (15 points) and then make the 7th-place games in each of the other two sports (5 or 6 points in each). That’d get him to that 25-point #, but if he can’t win football, his odds of placing drop significantly.

For Las Cabras, they have the best chance of winning it all in football with a complete roster and a pretty excellent draw this week in the SG Choppers. For them, it feels more like a disappointment if they don’t get at least 2nd place in football (12 points). From there, they are likely relying on their basketball team to not get last (3+points) and then they’d focus all their energy on getting at least 3rd place in baseball (10+ points). That gets them to 25 and a chance to win the League of Leagues.

There’s a similar equation for the Shepherd Goods Choppers, but they have to win this game! And with the worst NBA squad so far, the odds of winning anything in NBA isn’t a given. But we know that Dye will put WORK into that MLB waiver wire, and last week’s win makes his season FAR from over. It’s an underdog story if we’ve ever seen one.

Last in this group is Sporty Strauss, who drew a lucky, lucky draw in week one though it didn’t seem that way last week. Strauss would have lost to almost anyone else last week, but gets to keep playing on due to the grace of Craig. For Strauss, the season-long equation is much simpler. With a win this week over The BamO’s and 12 or 15 points in hand, he’s in excellent, excellent shape. A playoff berth in basketball (7+ points) and a playoff berth in baseball (7+ points) would give him a victory in the League of Leagues. Drafting win-now players in baseball would help boost that squad when dynasty players go in record $$’s to the tanking teams, so Strauss should firmly be considered THE FAVORITE in the League of Leagues, all thanks to $traight Cash Homie.

(5TH-PLACE GAME) DTC Porkchop Express had a disappointing round 1 playoff matchup (more on that later), and draws another Nolo’s Division opponent for the 5th-place game. The winner of this game gets 8 POINTS towards the end-of-season-total. The loser gets 7 POINTS, the lowest amount a playoff team can get.

DTC Porkchop Express should be expected to win. It’s unlikely for Craig’s squad to perform this poorly multiple weeks in a row. The Ornery Otters should be getting AJ Brown back, but the team is getting banged up at record pace late this season.

For DTC Porkchop Express, even the 1-point difference between 8 and 7 will make a huge difference as the season goes along. With a good NBA squad, DTC Porkchop Express could be on his way to 10+ NBA points. A baseball playoff berth (and some victories) should be enough to get DTC a place in the top-4.

For the Ornery Otters, his season rests on baseball more than any other team in the League of Leagues. With average squads/finishes coming in both NFL and NBA, MLB is where he might have to make ground up. But NBA is far from done.

(CONSOLATION PLAYOFFS) The league now turns to $traight Cash Homie as a savior of a sort. If $traight Cash can’t beat Wait ‘Til Next Year, who now has top-24 options at each position in Ronald Jones and Antonio Brown, Kyle is very well onto his way to a year-1 victory. If Wait’ Til Next Year scores 5 or 6 points in football and 10 or 12 points in basketball, he probably only needs to make the playoffs in baseball to finish top-2 in the league. From where $traight Cash Homie stands, there’s probably not even a ton of motivation to win this game. Not that he wants last, per say, but better draft picks can only improve his chances of winning in the future.

The other matchup is the Cooper Troopers vs Win’s Up Doc. There’s a similar dynamic at play in this matchup. Win’s Up Doc is desperate for points in NFL with an excellent (albeit COVID-riddled) NBA squad. Winning this game improves his chances of winning the League of Leagues especially if Kyle and Strauss lose their matchups. Cooper has stated multiple times that he cares about not losing way more than he does about winning, so he is motivated and hungry to win this and catch those 5 or 6 points in the Consolation Tournament.

(LAST-PLACE GAME) How fitting that the last-place game is between the two teams that have circled each other in the sewer all season long. The Pullies and the MN Moose Knuckles have always been the shit-stains of this league, and one team can FINALLY become the biggest stain of them all. Even more, there is a 2-point difference in season-long points in this game. The winner gets a measly 2 POINTS, and the winner gets 0 POINTS. Both of these teams are probably out of the running for winning the League of Leagues, much to the chagrin of Chris Hall, Peter Sorenson and Erica Hermy.

Playoffs Week 1 High Score

  • Shepherd Goods Choppers (Jordan)

  • 139

Notes: Are the Shepherd Goods Choppers getting hot at the right time!? Did they just conjure momentum from thin air!? A team that had previously been setting records for the lowest-scoring outputs in league history suddenly turns the jets on when it mattered most, sending the Ornery Otters to the 5th-Place game. Now, Dye stares down the Las Cabras juggernaut.

Playoffs Week 1 Low Score

  • DTC Porkchop Express (Craig)

  • 69 points (#nice)

Notes: An absolute let-down when he needed it most. DTC Porkchop' Express’ season goes up in flames with down performances all across his roster. At least it’s a young squad, and at least Aaron Jones wouldn’t have made the difference in victory or defeat. No matter what DTC Porkchop Express would have done with his roster, it wouldn’t have made a difference.

Playoffs Week 1 MVP

  • Gabriel Davis

  • Wait ‘Til Next Year (Kyle)

  • 23 points

Notes: Gabriel Davis was available to EVERYONE last week, including The BamO’s who didn’t have a second practice squad player. When people complain about waivers, this is example 1A of why waivers aren’t too small. With the lack of options on Wait ‘Til Next Year’s bench, the 23 points that Gabriel Davis scored in a playoff matchup very well could be the difference between Kyle winning the entire league. Teams aren’t doing enough research on the waiver wire, and the teams that do have a big advantage.

Playoff Week 1 LVP

  • Jerry Jeudy

  • Ornery Otters (Korey)

  • 0 points

Notes: A goose egg from Jerry Jeudy in round 1 of the playoffs!? Brutal beat. The Ornery Otters’ roster was tanked by injuries this week, but still had a shot to win with a decent performance from Jeudy against a sub-par secondary. The Otters now square off against DTC Porkchop Express in the 5th place game.

Round 2 Matchups

  • The BamOs (1) vs Sporty Strauss (6)

  • Las Cabras (2) vs Shepherd Goods Choppers (5)

    • 5th Place Game: DTC Porkchop Express (3) vs Ornery Otters (4)

  • $traight Cash Homie (7) vs Wait ’Til Next Year (10)

  • Win’s Up Doc (8) vs Cooper Troopers (9)

    • Last Place Game: MN Moose Knuckles (11) vs The Pullies (12)
