(Tier 1) It’s officially a two-man race for the BYE and, by golly, they play each other this week in a championship preview! It should be a heavyweight fight between Wait ‘Til Next Year and Win’s Up Doc in the Apostrophe Bowl. Over the last two weeks these squads have averaged within 20 points of each other, and Win’s Up Doc made a (good) trade that weakens his team a little bit. This leaves an opportunity for Wait ‘Til Next Year to snag the 1-seed and roll through the rest of the season. Nobody is convinced he is truly waiting for next season, and Oatrick is the only thing standing in his way.

(Tier 2) At this point in the season, Tier 2 is thick. The BamO’s, DTC Porkchop Express, and The Pullies could easily jump into Tier 1, but there’s still a big difference between the top-2 teams and the rest of the league (right now).

The bigger news is that, as expected, the MN Moose Knuckles have begun ceding position to the Ornery Otters and Sporty Strauss. Right now, it looks like a 3-way stuffing mess between these squads for the last playoff spot, but The Pullies are starting to fade and could enter this danger zone soon enough. It should not be expected for the MN Moose Knuckles to make the playoffs, but the bigger question is this: does Sporty Strauss become a big-time BUYER in NBA and make even more moves like the Dillon Brooks for Darnell Mooney swap? Sporty Strauss is still probably 7th or 8th in this hierarchy, and needs to make some moves to solidify his position in NBA and in the league writ large. But he has opportunity, and that’s all some teams need is an opportunity.

(Tier 3) First of all in Tier 3, if you don’t set your lineup, you don’t deserve to be ranked or mentioned. An unnamed squad decided to only play 41 players on a 50 play week, which is absolutely unacceptable. In future weeks, there will be penalties for such negligence to keep things fair, prevent tanking and make sure nothing funny happens. It’s extremely disappointing to see a team give up on a week like this.

However, that team might prefer its name not to be mentioned with these three other teams. These teams are dreadful, and the season has gone off the rails far sooner than any of them expected. For the Cooper Troopers, this isn’t a bad thing. With some unlucky losses in football, Coop can officially move into SELLING mode this week to rebuild his roster for next year. Right now, only the MN Moose Knuckles and Cooper Troopers are out of contention in season-long play. And it’s better to know that sooner rather than later.

For Las Cabras, the loss to Sporty Strauss could prove disastrous. For NFL teams that have the same record, Trev/Jordan and Strauss have been and will continue to be circling each other all season. However, now Strauss FIRMLY has the season-long edge in this rivalry, and the hits keep coming for Las Cabras. Last week, Trev and Jordan might have been in a position where they were looking to BUY, but now things get a little bit murkier. Their NFL team is showing cracks, they don’t have as much MLB budget as they’d like, and their NBA team is tied for the least amount of wins with ESPN giving them a 10% chance at the playoffs. For them, the most prudent option might be to wait it out, see where they place in football, determine how their baseball team comes together, and maybe make a couple moves to move up in the NBA consolation playoffs to hope to place 3rd or 4th in season-long.

Week 5 High Score

  • DTC Porkchop Express (Craig)

  • 1509 points

Notes: What a waste! How can you score the most points in a week all season against Jack, of all teams? Craig will surely take the W, but he would have beaten Jack in all of the weeks this season. This was a week, with the right matchup, that he could have beaten a top team and put himself in great position. But why can’t his hot streak continue?

Week 5 Low Score (AKA the JackJack Award)

  • unmentionable team

  • 960 points

Notes: This is generally the type of score you’d expect from someone who didn’t start a full lineup. With another 9 weekly plays, this team isn’t close to contention for lowest score of the week (but still sucked).

Week 5 MVP

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo

  • Sporty Strauss (Strauss)

  • 186 points

Notes: Three players sat atop the pre-draft rankings. Three players were signed for exorbitant prices at the auction. Doncic. Jokic. Antetokounmpo. This week, Giannis and Jokic squared off against each other. Jokic was banged up and has already missed more games this season than all of last season, so Giannis came out on top. Sporty Strauss is rounding into form.

Week 5 LVP(s)

  • LeBron James

  • The Pullies (Peter/Eric)

  • 48 points

Notes: In a 4-play week, LeBron only ended up playing in two games. Even then, his output is extremely disappointing. He scored 30 in one game, which is fine. And then got ejected during a piss-poor performance on Sunday. If it were a normal LeBron week, The Pullies would have topped Win’s Up Doc.

Week 6 Matchups

  • Wait ’Til Next Year (1) vs Win’s Up Doc (2)

  • DTC Porkchop Express (3) vs The BamOs (4)

  • The Pullies (5) vs Las Cabras (9)

  • Ornery Otters (6) vs $traight Cash Homie (11)

  • Sporty Strauss (7) vs Cooper Troopers (10)

  • MN Moose Knuckles (8) vs unmentionable team

Week 6 MATCHUP of the WEEK

  • Wait ’Til Next Year (1) vs Win’s Up Doc (2)

As alluded to earlier, this is as big a showdown as you’ll see in fantasy basketball. Luckily, this isn’t the only matchup between these juggernauts. They’ll also square off in week 12 right after New Years.

That being said, there are still more ‘important’ matchups this week, because both of these teams are surely playoff-bound. DTC-BamOs is a really strong honorable mention, because things still aren’t guaranteed for them even though the scoring output has been unreal.
