Trade Summary:
This is a no-brainer trade for Wait ‘Til Next Year – grabbing a good/great catcher bat who can provide an immediate boost to a team that has championship aspirations instead of a player who will be out all year. If Contreras were on Kyle’s team all season thus far, he’d be his 3rd-best hitter on a points-per-game basis. Contreras has had an outstanding season, and Wait ‘Til Next Year FINALLY gets a Cub on his roster – a player to cheer for on his favorite team.
If the team making this trade was the SG Choppers, DTC Porkchop Express, MN Moose Knuckles or even The Pullies, acquiring Anthony Rendon would be an A+ deal. He’s old, sure, but he still has 4 more years on his $245,000,000 contract after this season with a full no-trade clause. Being one of the best players in all of baseball, he signed one of the largest deals in MLB history – $35mil/year. If he can just get healthy again, he’s an MVP candidate. He’s an awesome buy-low for a tanking team.
The problem is that Las Cabras aren’t technically a tanking team. Right now, they are tied for 2nd in total points scored this season. Even if they tank, they can’t drop down low enough to get a premiere asset in the drafts. And they are well within range of getting 4th place with a Consolation Success story (or slinking in to the playoffs).
With Wait ‘Til Next Year bolstering his league-best MLB roster and Sporty Strauss/Doc the other top-3 teams, Las Cabras just needs to score 5 or more points than The BamO’s or the Ornery Otters to tie for or hold 3rd place. Winning the Consolation Tournament and getting 6 points would get Las Cabras to 24 points. Either Sam or Korey would have to come in 3rd place or higher for Las Cabras not to cash out.
Las Cabras being a selling team just doesn’t make complete sense, but Rendon is still worth making this deal for.
