Adam Thielen Trade

(6/3/22)

Win’s Up Doc trades Adam Thielen (WR, Vikings)

to

The Pullies for 4th Round MLB Pick

Win’s Up Doc trade grade: A
The Pullies trade grade: B-

Trade Summary:
This was a smart, sly move by Win’s Up Doc. In the Jordan Poole Trade, Win’s Up Doc acquired Adam Thielen, an aging, 32-year-old WR who could still be productive this season. He’s a win-now type of player, but that goes for MOST NFL players in the League of Leagues. There’s still value in being good this season, and everyone knows he’s only got 1 or 2 years left of being a competitive player.

Win’s Up Doc starting trying to trade him, and eventually found a partner with the desperate Pullies. Peter and Eric knew they needed to get at least one NFL keeper before the deadline to avoid people raking them over the coals with regards to trade offers. This trade will help them gradually improve their roster as the NFL season nears.

Here’s the NFL squad based on CURRENT-SEASON rankings:

QB1: Joe Burrow (QB6)
QB2: Carson Wentz (QB26)

RB1: Leonard Fournette (R12)
RB2: JK Dobbins (RB20) - [way too low]

WR1: Justin Jefferson (WR3)
WR2: Stefon Diggs (WR6)

FLEX1: Adam Thielen (WR36)
FLEX2: PULLIES TBD FIRST-ROUND PICK

TE: Cole Kmet (TE14)

That starting lineup is obviously not very good, but if they hit on their first-round pick, which will likely be near the top of the draft, they can start to turn this thing around pretty quickly. The real killer for them is QB2 with Wentz being a poor option, but that’ll be hard to improve on. This team is razor-thin and obviously needs to stay healthy, which isn’t something that Adam Thielen is particularly going to help with, but he’s a solid #1 FLEX option (which they didn’t have previously) and he’s the great white hope.

The Pullies maybe gave up too much – a 4th Round MLB is a really solid – but that pick is outside of keeper territory and is a long ways away. If by a miracle they still compete in NFL next season, they can make up for that asset in trades come baseball season.
