Late-May Stock Up / Stock Down Report

Late-May Stock Up / Stock Down Report

Some players throughout the season move up or down in value. Many times, these movements directly correlate towards a change in a team’s rankings. These posts will capture these value change in ALL 3 SPORTS. They’ll primarily focus on in-season players, but if injuries or player movement happens in off-season sports, that’ll be denoted as well.

We’re going to do something different this week. FanTrax just posted a top-500 dynasty rankings sheet, and we’re going to compare the differences of players from the previous ranking to this ranking. Here’s the newest ranking sheet: https://www.fantraxhq.com/fantasy-baseball-dynasty-rankings where you can see who goes up and down after the latest update..

STOCK UP Players

  1. Jeremy Pena (SS, Astros) – Win’s Up Doc

  2. Shane McClanahan (SP, Rays) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

  3. Seiya Suzuki (CO, Cubs) – Las Cabras

  4. Carlos Rodon (SP, Giants) – Win’s Up Doc

  5. Dylan Cease (SP, White Sox) – Sporty Strauss

  6. Ty France (1B/2B, Mariners) – Sporty Strauss

  7. Alek Manoah (SP, Blue Jays) – The Pullies

  8. Byron Buxton (CF, Twins) – The Pullies

  9. Jazz Chisholm, Jr. (2B/SS, Marlins) – The BamO’s

  10. Kyle Wright (SP, Braves) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

  • Jeremy Pena (SS, Astros) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 126th Overall Dynasty (Previously 403rd)

      • #HUNK

    • 31 points over the last 2 weeks (3.9 ppg)

Pena was a free agent pickup by Win’s Up Doc, and he’s been an absolute steal. From a position of scarcity, Pena is scoring over 3 points per game throughout the season. He’s also filling Oat’s actual biggest area of need – #HUNKS! Pena is a top-130 player, which is totally acceptable as a keeper. He’s going to be a staple of Win’s Up Doc’s lineup for a long time to come, and he’s another excellent young player that Oat found off the scrap heap. Who says Oat doesn’t know anything about baseball!?

  • Shane McClanahan (SP, Rays) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

    • 29th Overall Dynasty (Previously 80th)

      • #HUNK

    • 55 points over the last 2 weeks (27.5 ppg)

McClanahan is the 18th-ranked player in League of Leagues so far while being drafted in the 2nd round of the snake as a #Hunk. That’s easily one of the steals of the draft so far. Looking back, he should have been the first pick of the snake draft. Either him or Alonso, but his #Hunk status puts him over the top. Wait ‘Til Next Year found an ace in McLanahan.

  • Seiya Suzuki (CO, Cubs) – Las Cabras

    • 106th Overall Dynasty (Previously 153rd)

      • #HUNK

    • 79 points this season (2.6 ppg)

Seiya Suzuki was ranked lower on the initial draft cheat sheet, but there was a lot of interest in him as a #Hunk. Las Cabras took him early, and it looks like an excellent pick, especially recently. Over their two-game winning streak, Suzuki has been a key difference maker for them.

  • Carlos Rodon (SP, Giants) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 45th Overall Dynasty (Previously 101st)

    • 157 points this season (22.4 ppg)

Another excellent Oat snake pick. Rodon was a 4th round pick in the snake – the 103rd overall player taken. He’s certainly returned that kind of value so far, and he’s a legit #1 pitcher for a team going forward. He’s a big reason for Win’s Up Doc’s hot start.

  • Dylan Cease (SP, White Sox) – Sporty Strauss

    • 40th Overall Dynasty (Previously 73rd)

    • 143 points this season (20.4 ppg)

More pitchers from the #Big3 of the League of Leagues MLB. There’s a pattern developing here. There is no bigger boost to a team’s squad than a starting pitcher that becomes an ace while drafted late or in the middle of the draft. Dylan Cease is Sporty Strauss’ big boost, and he was also a 2nd round pick as well. This range was the sweet spot for pitchers.

  • Ty France (1B/2B, Mariners) – Sporty Strauss

    • 110th Overall Dynasty (Previously 170th)

    • 90 points over the last month (3.5 ppg)

Ty France was another great Strauss pick. With 2B eligibility, 3.5 ppg out of that position over the course of a month is a bargain. Sporty Strauss found him deep in the 7th round of the draft, and he’s been valuable enough to sneak into the top-110 of dynasty rankings. France is a firm keeper drafted outside of keeper territory.

  • Alek Manoah (SP, Blue Jays) – The Pullies

    • 37th Overall Dynasty (Previously 62nd)

      • #HUNK

    • 179 points this season (25.5 ppg)

Manoah is the first auction player on this list, and he’s been great for The Pullies, particularly early on. Manoah was supposed to help form one of the strongest rotations in the league, and he’s done his part… but the rest of The Pullies are not. Even still, Manoah is one of the best #Hunk keepers in the entire league.

  • Byron Buxton (CF, Twins) – The Pullies

    • 26th Overall Dynasty (Previously 53rd)

    • 70 points over the last month (4.4 ppg)

Another Pullies pick in the auction, it’s just too bad their snake draft hasn’t been great. Buxton is a bonafide star right now, but the injury concerns always hang over his head. When on the field, he’s a top-12ish player. But he’s starting to sit games and has a game limit this season which will cap his value. Right now, The Pullies need all the help they can get.

  • Jazz Chisholm, Jr. (2B/SS, Marlins) – The BamO’s

    • 30th Overall Dynasty (Previously 72nd)

      • #HUNK

    • 106 points this season (3.8 ppg)

If this were root, Chisholm would be at the top of this list. He has 6 steals and 6 home runs, a unique blend in today’s game. He’s been the most consistent player on The BamO’s who still are on a ridiculous 4-game losing streak. But as a #Hunk, Chisholm looks like a star that The BamO’s can build around. Even though he didn’t draft any players near the top of the draft, he’s still found a couple of amazing finds.

  • Kyle Wright (SP, Braves) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

    • 170th Overall Dynasty (Previously Unranked)

    • 97 points over the last month (19.4 ppg)

We started this list with a free agent pickup, and we’ll end it with one too. Kyle Wright hasn’t been quite as good lately, but he was a rock solid addition to Wait ‘Til Next Year’s pitching staff. If he continues to produce, he could work his way into keeper territory. If not, he’s done his job so far to cover up some holes on Kyle’s roster. It never hurts to have a player with the same name as the GM either!

STOCK DOWN Players

  1. Alex Kiriloff (1B/CO, Twins) – Las Cabras

  2. Jarred Kelenic (CF, Mariners) – Win’s Up Doc

  3. Trevor Rogers (SP, Marlins) – $traight Cash Homie

  4. Jo Adell (CO, Angels) – DTC Porkchop Express

  5. Jose Berrios (SP, Blue Jays) – MN Moose Knuckles

  6. Marcus Semien (2B/SS, Rangers) – MN Moose Knuckles

  7. Trent Grisham (CF, Brewers) – SG Choppers

  8. Jesse Winker (CO, Mariners) – Ornery Otters

  9. Austin Meadows (CO, Tigers) – Sporty Strauss

  10. Bryan Reynolds (CF, Pirates) – Cooper Troopers

  • Alex Kiriloff (1B/CO, Twins) – Las Cabras

    • 140th Overall Dynasty (Previously 75th)

      • #HUNK

    • .9 ppg this season

      • Sent down to AAA

Kiriloff was only draft for $7, so it’s not the end of the world if he doesn’t end up as a keeper. But it still hurts. Las Cabras needed all the bodies they could muster early on in the season, and Kiriloff’s .9ppg killed them. They’ve been better without him. Now they need to hope he regains his AAA form and can be a serviceable keeper. It still hurts to stash him on the roster when he isn’t playing, particularly with all the injuries and poor performances out of Las Cabras.

  • Jarred Kelenic (CF, Mariners) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 87th Overall Dynasty (Previously 29th)

      • #HUNK

    • 1.4 ppg this season

      • Sent down to AAA

Kelenic is a very similar story to Kiriloff, he was just drafted much higher and still has more hope going forward. In fact, a team trying to tank should be making overtures to Win’s Up Doc for Kelenic. It isn’t unheard of for a player to struggle out of the gate, and a team like the Choppers, Porkchop Express or Otters, who are starting to focus on next year, could use a shot on a player like Kelenic while he’s down in AAA.

  • Trevor Rogers (SP, Marlins) – $traight Cash Homie

    • 105th Overall Dynasty (Previously 56th)

      • #HUNK

    • 38 points over the last 2 weeks (12.8 ppg)

Trevor Rogers was supposed to be $traight Cash Homie’s one reliable young pitcher, but he’s been a MASSIVE disappointment so far this season. Jack has found some serviceable arms on his team, but he has one of the worst starting rotations in all of the League of Leagues, because Rogers is an actively bad fantasy asset so far this season. He’s slowly drifting out of keeper territory, though he’s still within range right now.

  • Jo Adell (CO, Angels) – DTC Porkchop Express

    • 181st Overall Dynasty (Previously 128th)

    • 1.8 ppg this season

      • Sent down to AAA

Jo Adell was supposed to sit on DTC Porkchop Express’ IR, not his actual roster. Adell got sent down to to the minors again, and his prospects of being a good MLB player are dwindling. He’s still young, and he still has a chance. But he drifted firmly out of keeper territory into no-man’s land.

  • Jose Berrios (SP, Blue Jays) – MN Moose Knuckles

    • 132nd Overall Dynasty (Previously 89th)

    • 2.5 points over the last 2 weeks (1.25 ppg)

Berrios has also drifted out of keeper territory. 132nd isn’t the end of the world as a keeper, especially in a league that values SP more than anything else. But it still hurts the MN Moose Knuckles to have gotten this kind of production from Berrios so far this season. It’s a big reason why he has a losing record. The Twins looked like they made a good decision to cast off Berrios, and maybe the Moose Knuckles should think about doing the same thing to a team that needs more arms.

  • Marcus Semien (2B/SS, Rangers) – MN Moose Knuckles

    • 86th Overall Dynasty (Previously 42nd)

    • 8 points over the last 2 weeks (.8 ppg)

Another MN Moose Knuckles player from the auction hurting him. With $17 remaining, the MN Moose Knuckles needed to hit on his auction guys. He got a nice find in Adames and Trea Turner is a star. But the rest of his draft, particularly Semien and Berrios, have been severely underwhelming if unplayable. Semien is firmly a bench body right now.

  • Trent Grisham (CF, Brewers) – SG Choppers

    • 212th Overall Dynasty (Previously 114th)

    • 15.5 points over the last 2 weeks (1.4 ppg)

Grisham didn’t get taken until the last pick of the 7th round, so the League of Leagues valued him less than rankings sheets did. But the Shepherd Goods Choppers need keepers. Grisham was the best player on the board, and Dye wanted him as one of his keepers thinking he got a steal. Instead, Grisham has been a big reason why he’s 1-4.

  • Jesse Winker (CO, Mariners) – Ornery Otters

    • 123rd Overall Dynasty (Previously 84th)

    • 76 points this season (2.2 ppg)

Winker was a player the Ornery Otters got from the SG Choppers, but he’s also disappointed. There’s just something in the water with these Choppers picks. Winker has slipped from a bonafide keeper to a fringe keeper, but his production should turn at some point this season.

  • Austin Meadows (CO, Tigers) – Sporty Strauss

    • 164th Overall Dynasty (Previously 116th)

    • 9 points over the last 2 weeks (1 ppg)

      • on the IL

This was another player that was involved in a pick trade in the MLB draft. Austin Meadows was previously a fringe keeper. Then he got traded to the Tigers, and his value has gone significantly down. Once he gets back from the IL, he could turn his season around. But he’s been a big bust for Sporty Strauss so far.

  • Bryan Reynolds (CF, Pirates) – Cooper Troopers

    • 94th Overall Dynasty (Previously 59th)

    • 42 points over the last month (1.8 ppg)

Bryan Reynolds hasn’t been a disaster, but he was chosen around the same time as Max Scherzer and Robbie Ray. Then he was drafted before Shane McClanahan, Kevin Gausman, Dylan Cease, Joe Musgrove and other pitchers who have been great so far. He was a 2nd round pick – the sweet spot for many productive players in this draft. The Cooper Troopers blew it, reaching for a player on a bad team.
