Late-June Stock Up / Stock Down Report

Late-June Stock Up / Stock Down Report

Some players throughout the season move up or down in value. Many times, these movements directly correlate towards a change in a team’s rankings. These posts will capture these value change in ALL 3 SPORTS. They’ll primarily focus on in-season players, but if injuries or player movement happens in off-season sports, that’ll be denoted as well.

STOCK UP Players

  1. Aaron Nola (SP, Phillies) – Las Cabras

  2. Jake Cronenworth (UTIL, Padres) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

  3. Spencer Strider (SP, Braves) – Las Cabras

  4. Triston McKenzie (SP, Guardians) – Ornery Otters

  5. Miles Mikolas (SP, Cardinals) – The BamO’s

  6. Jose Berrios (SP, Blue Jays) – MN Moose Knuckles

  7. Rhys Hoskins (1B, Phillies) – Cooper Troopers

  8. Michael Harris (CF, Braves) – MN Moose Knuckles

  9. Tony Gonsolin (SP, Dodgers) – Sporty Strauss

  10. Luis Arraez (UTIL, Twins) – Las Cabras

  • Aaron Nola (SP, Phillies) – Las Cabras

    • 47th Overall Dynasty

    • 101 points over the last 2 weeks (34 ppg)

The number one player over the past couple of weeks is Aaron Nola, one of the sneakiest pitchers to grab this offseason. He’s a tad older (29), but still has a few good years left on his arm. Now that he’s rounding into dominant form, he should be a staple on Las Cabras for years to come. Maybe he can even push Las Cabras into the playoffs (or a Consolation BYE at the very least).

  • Jake Cronenworth (UTIL, Padres) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

    • 130th Overall Dynasty

    • 70 points over the last 2 weeks (4.4 ppg)

Cronenworth was already a fringe keeper, so hot streaks like this prove that he’s certainly worth keeping. Fringe keepers playing like this are so huge for teams’ keeper outlooks and future prognostication. While positions don’t totally matter in League of Leagues, he plays both 2B and SS and can be a nice, flexible player on Wait ‘Til Next Year (or another team!) for years to come.

  • Spencer Strider (SP, Braves) – Las Cabras

    • 352nd Overall Dynasty

      • #HUNK / minor leaguer

    • 55 points over the last 2 weeks (27 ppg)

Spencer Strider has had two great awesome starts – another find for Las Cabras. Anytime you can find a player who plays like this off of waivers, even for a short stretch, is a huge find. We’ll see how long it continues. He has starts against two top-6 scoring teams in MLB in the next week.

  • Triston McKenzie (SP, Guardians) – Ornery Otters

    • 231st Overall Dynasty

      • #HUNK

    • 50 points over the last 2 weeks (25 ppg)

What a great addition for the Ornery Otters. Every team should have been in on McKenzie at that price, and he’s paying dividends so far. McKenzie is only 24, is a #HUNK and could get better in the future. Keeping him isn’t out of the question for the Ornery Otters, especially considering Ke’Bryan Hayes’ slump. In general, an extra #HUNK-eligible body never hurt anybody!

  • Miles Mikolas (SP, Cardinals) – The BamO’s

    • 412th Overall Dynasty

    • 77 points over the last 2 weeks (39 ppg)

Mikolas was picked up by The BamO’s on the first day of the season, and he’s been really solid, scoring over 22ppg on the season. However, he’s really been settling in as of late, ALMOST pitching a no-no last week. This was a great find for Sam, and Mikolas has a favorable schedule this week, playing two middling offenses in the NL Central. That’s good, because The BamO’s need him more than ever right now.

  • Jose Berrios (SP, Blue Jays) – MN Moose Knuckles

    • 132nd Overall Dynasty

    • 63 points over the last 2 weeks (32 ppg)

Jose Berrios got off to an awful start, but he’s rounding into form. He’s still SP42 on the season, which isn’t good but leaves some room to improve and return on ADP. The Moose Knuckles generally are improving lately, and Shane Bieber has a similar story as Berrios. But Berrios’ re-ascension is more important, because he had slipped down to fringe keeper territory and now Hall will feel just fine about bringing Berrios onto the team next season.

  • Rhys Hoskins (1B, Phillies) – Cooper Troopers

    • 158th Overall Dynasty

    • 64 points over the last 2 weeks (4.6 ppg)

The Cooper Troopers needed a player like Rhys Hoskins to step up last week, and he did. Another fringe keeper, Hoskins could play himself on to a roster with these kind of dynamic outputs if he continues mashing the rest of the year.

  • Michael Harris (CF, Braves) – MN Moose Knuckles

    • 236th Overall Dynasty

    • 51 points over the last 2 weeks (4.3 ppg)

A decently-ranked prospect, Michael Harris has played VERY well in his debut in the major leagues, hitting .321 in 78 at-bats. His OBP is close to .350, so he’s getting on base and scoring runs. He’s really interesting. He’ll likely shed his prospect status soon, but if he hits like this… the Moose Knuckles could use a better #HUNK.

  • Tony Gonsolin (SP, Dodgers) – Sporty Strauss

    • 239th Overall Dynasty

    • 63 points over the last 2 weeks (31 ppg)

Another pitcher who was recently traded, Gonsolin is now a Sporty Strauss. He’s been rock solid as of late and has yet to lose a game all season. He’s 8-0 on a stellar team with a 1.42 ERA. He’s a stud, and Sporty Strauss needs him more than ever (and I’ll bet the Porkchop Expresses miss him dearly).

  • Luis Arraez (UTIL, Twins) – Las Cabras

    • Unranked Dynasty

    • 45 points over the last 2 weeks (4.1 ppg)

Arraez is an interesting player. He’s probably ranked significantly lower on every single dynasty rankings sheet, because he’s a piss-poor roto player. Only 3 HRs for a hitter is untenable in roto, particularly because it means a decrease in RBIs. He doesn’t steal bases. But he scores runs up the wazoo, hits over .360 (!!!) and gets on base over 44% of his at-bats. In points scoring, that could potentially be a keeper. He’s scoring 3ppg, a plenty fine number for any hitter in the League of Leagues.

STOCK DOWN Players

  1. Walker Buehler (SP, Dodgers) – Cooper Troopers

  2. Anthony Rendon (3B, Angels) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

  3. Keibert Ruiz (C, Nationals) – $traight Cash Homie

  4. Javier Baez (2B/SS, Tigers) – Cooper Troopers

  5. Kevin Gausman (SP, Blue Jays) – Win’s Up Doc

  6. Luis Urias (UTIL, Brewers) – Las Cabras

  7. Zac Gallen (SP, Diamondbacks) – Diamondbacks

  8. Nolan Gorman (2B/3B, Cardinals) – Sporty Strauss

  9. Miles Straw (CF, Guardians) – The Pullies

  10. Justin Turner (3B, Dodgers) – MN Moose Knuckles

  • Walker Buehler (SP, Dodgers) – Cooper Troopers

    • 25th Overall Dynasty

    • INJURED

This injury is so bad for the Cooper Troopers, but he wasn’t going to win anything this year anyways. As long as Coop can make the playoffs, he’s going to avoid the last-place penalty. But once he gets there, he probably doesn’t even want to compete much. If Buehler never comes back this season, Coop is probably ousted early in the ‘offs and can keep his top-3 Strauss pick.

  • Anthony Rendon (3B, Angels) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

    • 117th Overall Dynasty

    • INJURED

Rendon has a little bit more bearing on season-long standings. Any season-long injury to the team at the top is a big deal. But Wait ‘Til Next Year can get around Rendon’s absence. He was only scoring 2.5ppg and was dealing with injuries. Right now, the keeper status of Anthony Rendon is something more in question… that’s where this hurts.

But I’m not sure why Wait ‘Til Next Year hasn’t traded Rendon to a tanking team yet. The SG Choppers, DTC Porkchop Express or even Las Cabras could use a player like Rendon as a keeper while trying to suck for the rest of the season. He’s 32, but he could still be a good player in the future and fits those teams far better than Kyle’s win-now squad.

  • Keibert Ruiz (C, Nationals) – $traight Cash Homie

    • 208th Overall Dynasty

    • 18 points over the last 2 weeks (1.6 ppg)

Keibert Ruiz was a nice pick in the prospect draft, but he’s starting to fade off now. There were hopes he could have hit well enough to be a keeper, but that just doesn’t happen with catchers. The amount of catchers that will get kept year-to-year in LoL are pretty small, and Ruiz has not proven himself in that category yet, hitting .250 with only 2 HRs.

  • Javier Baez (2B/SS, Tigers) – Cooper Troopers

    • 74th Overall Dynasty

    • 25 points over the last 2 weeks (2.3 ppg)

Baez has had a disastrous season, slipping from the Cooper Troopers hitting rotation entirely. He’s batting .194 on the season – untenable for a playoff hopeful like Coop. There’s obviously hope he’ll improve, and he’s still a solid keeper… but that could change if these stats do not improve down the stretch. Cooper needs another bat to catch fire, and Baez would be the ideal candidate.

  • Kevin Gausman (SP, Blue Jays) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 57th Overall Dynasty

    • 12.5 points over the last 2 weeks (6 ppg)

Kevin Gausman was one of the best pitchers in the game until his last four starts, not topping 17.5 fantasy points per game in any of them – none of them against teams with top offenses. This is worrisome for Win’s Up Doc, who needs top-tier pitching to win the League of Leagues this season. Gausman needs to regain his form, stay a solid keeper and ballast Win’s Up Doc’s Scherzer-less rotation.

  • Luis Urias (UTIL, Brewers) – Las Cabras

    • 159th Overall Dynasty

    • 19 points over the last 2 weeks (1.6 ppg)

Once a player on the ‘STOCK UP’ category, Urias has been BAD recently. For a fringe keeper, that’s a disappointment for Las Cabras who need all the help they can get in MLB going forward. Urias is likely not the answer as a keeper, and he’s hurting the lineup right now. That’s a sad beat for the Cabras, everyone’s new favorite trade partner.

  • Zac Gallen (SP, Diamondbacks) – Diamondbacks

    • 83rd Overall Dynasty

    • 17.5 points over the last 2 weeks (9 ppg)

Zac Gallen SHOULD have been on the ‘STOCK UP’ category earlier this season, but he never made it. Now, he’s started to suck, hurting $traight Cash Homie’s playoff odds in a massive way. He’s still a keeper, but maybe is dropping down to more of a SP3 instead of an Ace – a big difference in long term prognostication.

  • Nolan Gorman (2B/3B, Cardinals) – Sporty Strauss

    • 162nd Overall Dynasty

      • #HUNK / prospect

    • 17 points over the last 2 weeks (1.3 ppg)

Still prospect-eligible, Sporty Strauss probably hopes that Nolan Gorman gets sent down to the minors in the next dozen-or-so games before he loses that eligibility instead of destroying his lineup with 1-point outings. Gorman got off to a hot start, but has struggled for weeks on end at this point.

  • Miles Straw (CF, Guardians) – The Pullies

    • 233rd Overall Dynasty

    • 14 points over the last 2 weeks (1.1 ppg)

Early on this season, Miles Straw was a rock solid player for The Pullies, but there’s nobody worse in the league to have in your lineup right now. The Pullies are a hodgepodge of players, and now it’s Straw’s time to sit on the bench.

Justin Turner (3B, Dodgers) – MN Moose Knuckles

  • 418th Overall Dynasty

  • 13 points over the last 2 weeks (1.2 ppg)

An older, unkeepable player, Justin Turner could have just helped MN Moose Knuckles get something on the trade market. Now, his value is shot, and he’s basically a non-factor going forward. In general, the MN Moose Knuckles had to overcorrect from a bad draft by taking some aging players who could produce right away and it’s come back to bite him this season.
