Early-July Stock Up / Stock Down Report

Late-June Stock Up / Stock Down Report

Some players throughout the season move up or down in value. Many times, these movements directly correlate towards a change in a team’s rankings. These posts will capture these value change in ALL 3 SPORTS. They’ll primarily focus on in-season players, but if injuries or player movement happens in off-season sports, that’ll be denoted as well.

STOCK UP Players

  1. Jalen Brunson (PG, Knicks) – The BamO’s

  2. Riley Greene (OF, Tigers) – Sporty Strauss

  3. Devin Vassell (SG/SF, Spurs) – MN Moose Knuckles

  4. Joshua Primo (SG, Spurs) – Sporty Strauss

  5. Keldon Johnson (SF/PF, Spurs) – Ornery Otters

  6. Alperen Sengun (C, Rockets) – Cooper Troopers

  7. Alex Kiriloff (1B/OF, Twins) – Las Cabras

  8. Shane Baz (SP, Rays) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

  9. Zion Williamson (PF, Pelicans) – $traight Cash Homie

  10. Gordon Hayward (SF, Hornets) and PJ Washington (PF/C, Hornets) – DTC Porkchop Express

  • Jalen Brunson (PG, Knicks) – The BamO’s

    • 80th Overall Dynasty

Brunson signing with the Knicks is an absolute saving grace for The BamO’s right now. Instead of being a good complementary roster piece, he’s the go-to go for the Knicks, which is MUCH NEEDED after the Miles Bridges situation. Bridges likely going to face significant legal repercussions and won’t be a keeper, and The BamO’s could do WAY worse than Brunson as a final keeper.

  • Riley Greene (OF, Tigers) – Sporty Strauss

    • 40th Overall Dynasty

    • 38 points over the last 2 weeks (3.5 ppg)

Though Sporty Strauss would likely prefer Riley Greene to stay a minor leaguer, he’s in the thick of the playoff race and Greene can only help his odds with the way he’s been playing. In just 16 games since getting called up, he’s reached base 28 times – almost twice a game! He’s hitting leadoff and has 12 runs. The OBP leaves a little bit to be desired, but his first-ever MLB Home Run was a walk-off. He’s been an instant contributor to Sporty Strauss’ previously floundering offense. And he’s a #HUNK and a future star, so Sporty Strauss should feel fortunate Greene is on his team.

  • Devin Vassell (SG/SF, Spurs) – MN Moose Knuckles

    • Vassell - 79th Overall Dynasty

      • #HUNK

All Spurs' stocks soared after the Dejounte Murray trade. Yes, the Spurs are tanking. But someone needs to play minutes. Someone needs to lead the offense. Vassell is the best bet to carry the offensive load, and he’s an amazing #HUNK for Hall now.

  • Joshua Primo (SG, Spurs) – Sporty Strauss

    • 105th Overall Dynasty

      • PRACTICE SQUAD

Primo previously wasn’t even close to a practice squad keeper, and now he’s almost a top-100 player. He’s one of the best PS players in the league, but, unfortunately, there aren’t many other Practice Squad players that fit into his minutes. He’ll likely get kept solo, but he could still be a starter on the Spurs and a #HUNK next season. The Murray trade was a boon for Strauss.

  • Keldon Johnson (SF/PF, Spurs) – Ornery Otters

    • 88th Overall Dynasty

The same logic that applied to Vassell and Primo applies to Keldon Johnson. While he isn’t a true scorer, he’s probably the best player on the Spurs right now. He’s going to get a lot of offense run through him, and he’s a really intriguing keeper option. He’s entering his 4th year in the league, and he’s gotten significantly better every single year, jumping from about 13 points to 17 points per game last year. He shoots a good percentage, including 40% from 3. He’s had 6+ rebounds per game in two straight seasons. And he’s only 23. He’s a really good keeper, and the Ornery Otters need to think long and hard about keeping him over Malcolm Brogdon (more on him later) or Mitchell Robinson.

  • Alperen Sengun (C, Rockets) – Cooper Troopers

    • 57th Overall Dynasty

This is the first Stock Up affected by the draft, though the Christian Wood trade has just as much to do with Sengun’s rise as the Jabari Smith pick. As a note, draft picks are not on anyone’s team right now, so they don’t apply to Stock Up/Down. Instead, we’re looking at how their selections impact the stocks of the players already on those teams. Sengun is a huge beneficiary of Jabari Smith slipping to the 3rd overall pick. While the Rockets and the Rockets fans might be disappointed, Smith is an amazing fit next to Sengun. Sengun can be the one player that plays inside in a four-out one-in style of offense. He’ll gobble up some boards and get some post-up offense. He’s such a great Practice Squad or #HUNK, and the Cooper Troopers’ NBA future kind of rests on how good he can become. Coop needs it.

  • Alex Kirilloff (1B/OF, Twins) – Las Cabras

    • 98th Overall Dynasty

    • 63 points over the last 2 weeks (32 ppg)

Las Cabras must be breathing a HUGE sigh of relief with Kirilloff’s recall to the majors. He’s playing very well, improving his around-2ppg statistical production to 3.5. He’s had games of 10 points and 14.5 points in the past week as a few home runs have been popping. While Las Cabras are mostly out of contention this season, they just need to be hopeful that Kirilloff continues to be a part of their team going forward. There was a time he didn’t even look like a keeper.

  • Shane Baz (SP, Rays) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

    • 57th Overall Dynasty

    • 47 points over the last 2 weeks (23.5 ppg)

Shane Baz has been hurt for most of the season, but he’s been an instant injection into the arms of Wait ‘Til Next Year upon his return. And he’s an amazing keeper. People don’t quite realize how good Kyle’s MLB roster is going to be next season. It’s going to absolutely mow down everyone in sight as long as it stays healthy, lead by his two Rays arms, Baz and McClanahan.

  • Zion Williamson (PF, Pelicans) – $traight Cash Homie

    • 40th Overall Dynasty

Signing a max contract is huge for Zion Williamson’s status in the league. If the Pelicans dragged their feet and waiting until next year to match any RFA tags, there would be serious concern about the injuries. There still is concern, but they are at least temporarily assuaged. If nothing else, Zion has a long term contract and will be a big part of any team’s roster, whether on the Pelicans or a trade.

  • Gordon Hayward (SF, Hornets) and PJ Washington (PF/C, Hornets) – DTC Porkchop Express

    • Hayward - 96th Overall Dynasty

    • PJ Washington - 94th Overall Dynasty

With the looming Miles Bridges situation, both Hayward and PJ Washington jump up in value. Both players (and Chris Paul) are ranked in a similar position on the dynasty rankings sheet, and DTC Porkchop Express has a difficult choice between the 3. At least Hayward, particularly, looks like a solid win-now player who is a little bit younger than CP3. Washington is on Craig’s shit-list, so he might not get kept even if ranked higher than Gordon right now. Hayward should be able to be more of a scoring focal point at the wing while PJ likely just gets more playing time.

  • Cade Cunningham (PG, Pistons) – Ornery Otters

    • 14th Overall Dynasty

Cade really should jump up in value – he’s already incredibly valuable – but the addition of Jaden Ivey only helps him. Cade is a great ball-handler, but he can also play off-ball. Ivey takes some pressure off him, letting him focus on stats that are better for fantasy than points like rebounds, assists, steals and 3’s. These guards are amazing fits next to each other, and Cade is one of the top-20 assets in all the League of Leagues now.

STOCK DOWN Players

  1. Miles Bridges (SF, Hornets) – The BamO’s

  2. Jonathan India (2B/SS, Reds) – DTC Porkchop Express

  3. Bryce Harper (CO, Phillies) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

  4. Dejounte Murray (PG, Hawks) – Win’s Up Doc

  5. Malcolm Brogdon (PG, Celtics) – Ornery Otters

  6. Jaren Jackson Jr. (PF/C, Grizzlies) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

  7. Karl-Anthony Towns (C, Wolves) – SG Choppers

  8. Rudy Gobert (C, Wolves) – MN Moose Knuckles

  9. Isaiah Stewart (C, Pistons) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

  10. Bo Bichette (SS, Blue Jays) and Teoscar Hernandez (CO, Blue Jays) – SG Choppers

  • Miles Bridges (SF, Hornets) – The BamO’s

    • ??? Dynasty

Who knows what actually happens with this situation, but this is one of the worst DV situations in recent memory. Bridges is in serious jeopardy of not only missing this season but going to prison and potentially never playing in the NBA again. He can’t be kept the way things look right now.

  • Jonathan India (2B/SS, Reds) – DTC Porkchop Express

    • 97th Overall Dynasty

    • 12.5 points over the last 2 weeks (1.1 ppg)

Jonathan India might legitimately be the worst draft pick in all of the League of Leagues this season. Mike Davis and Tyler Higbee are up there, but Craig passed on SO MANY good players with the 3rd overall pick of the MLB snake. Pete Alonso and Aaron Judge went with the next two picks. Then Correa and Lindor. Then DeGrom. Though he was the NL Rookie of the Year last season, he’s barely hitting above .200 this season with only 5 extra base hits all season with a .283 OPS, an absurdly low number. He’s been banged up and is striking out in over 25% of his at-bats. He has more strikeouts than games played. He’s not stealing bases. He’s not driving in runs. He’s a bust for DTC and looks to be a fringe keeper right now despite his #HUNK status.

  • Bryce Harper (CO, Phillies) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

    • 5th Overall Dynasty

    • INJURED

This injury hurts. Luckily, Harper only turns 30 this year. This isn’t going to be a major setback, though it’s unlikely Wait ‘Til Next Year gets any value out of him this season.

  • Dejounte Murray (PG, Hawks) – Win’s Up Doc

    • 20th Overall Dynasty

This is an interesting one. Murray’s primary value was that he was the only real player on a bad Spurs team, and San Antonio went into tank mode. Now, Murray has to compete with touches with not only Trae Young in Atlanta, but also an assortment of bigs (tbd on who stays and leaves) and a couple of wings. It’s a good basketball fit, but a terrible fantasy one. It wouldn’t be surprising if Murray’s production dropped by about 10 fantasy points per game. He’s still a gold mine in points leagues and was one of the best picks of the year.

  • Jaren Jackson Jr. (PF/C, Grizzlies) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

    • 18th Overall Dynasty

    • 25 points over the last 2 weeks (2.3 ppg)

‘Karen’ Jackson Jr. is a great long-term play in the League of Leagues, but he’s expected to miss some time to begin the season – potentially up to 2 months, which would be 8 matchups and about half the LoL regular season. That’s a huge hit to Wait ‘Til Next Year’s title hunt. He got robbed of a BYE last year, and now he could get robbed of another one if his team doesn’t get healthy. He’ll still be #1 on the Power Rankings unless something crazy happens, but the window is open for other teams like Sporty Strauss now.

  • Malcolm Brogdon (PG, Celtics) – Ornery Otters

    • ??? Overall Dynasty (77th Currently)

Hashtagbasketball hasn’t taken this trade into account yet and, while it’s good for real-life basketball, it’s terrible for Malcolm Brogdon. He got shipped to Boston for almost next to nothing. Now, instead of being the best player on the Pacers, he’s a backup guard splitting time at the point with Marcus Smart and Derrick White. He’s maybe the 7th best player on the Celtics now, and he’s going to play significantly less minutes to keep him fresh for the playoffs. The injuries are still inevitable, so he shouldn’t be kept under almost any circumstances. There are better options out there.

  • Karl-Anthony Towns (C, Wolves) – SG Choppers

    • 3rd Overall Dynasty

The next two players on this list, KAT and Rudy Gobert are in the same boat after the Wolves massive play for Gobert. Towns’ rebounds already were dropping steadily over the past couple of seasons, and now Gobert is added to the squad. Towns is a FAR better category player than a points player, and this only further cements his status as overrated in the League of Leagues

  • Rudy Gobert (C, Wolves) – MN Moose Knuckles

    • 36th Overall Dynasty

Gobert is usually the league’s leading rebounder. That’s where the primary source of his value comes from (though 6ppg from blocks is nice). Now with Towns (and other okay rebounders) on his team, expect those numbers to drop. Beyond that, he’s the 4th best offensive player on his own team and won’t be targeted much on the end of the court. He’s going to open up a lot of opportunities for other players, but expect his minutes to decline and his production to be much lower.

  • Isaiah Stewart (C, Pistons) – Wait ‘Til Next Year

    • 124th Overall Dynasty

      • #HUNK

Isaiah Stewart is a tricky player. He has limited skill and upside, but still rebounds and provides a physical presence. The Pistons could have gone after Ayton, but they took Jalen Duren in the draft. Many people love Duren, but it might still take awhile to get Duren, the second best athlete in the draft, up to speed. Meanwhile Stewart can provide value this season before maybe landing in a different situation year after year as a rotation big for Wait ‘Til Next Year.

  • Bo Bichette (SS, Blue Jays) and Teoscar Hernandez (CO, Blue Jays) – SG Choppers

    • Bichette - 13th Overall Dynasty

    • Hernandez - 50th Overall Dynasty

    • 25 points over the last 2 weeks (1.9 ppg) for both

The Choppers are slipping. They put up a good fight for more than half the season, but now their best players are failing and he’s looking at the tanking floor with glee. If it were up to Dye, these players would keep struggling, especially in the Consolation Playoffs.
